StenoMed Transcription Jobs Review

StenoMed, appear to be a Medical Transcription company that can also be classified as a Business Process Outsourcing company operating using the universally accepted agency business model. 

Their work comes to them from their clients, and then gets outsourced to their team of independent contractors who then process the work for and on behalf of StenoMed. 

Once the work has passed all quality assurance and control checks they then send it to the client for approval and acceptance. 

This is how all Transcription agencies work. 

What Is The Work Like?

The work as a Medical Transcriptionist requires a high level of knowledge in the process, medical terminology, Pharmacology, Physiology and strong focus and attention to detail as well as being a fast and accurate typist. 

Errors here can be fatal...literally!. 

It is a profession that can be repetitive by nature as you are typing line after line of text and typing what you hear. 

It is a job where having a good ear and an ability to understand different dialects is important and, quite often, people speaking English as a Second Language.  

Naturally speaking, good punctuation and grammar and spelling are a must in this line of work - particularly when it comes to spelling of medical terms. 

If and when you can, try to vary the work that you take on to increase your knowledge and experience in another area and keep your mind fresh and sharp. 

What Are The Application Requirements?

To work with StenoMed you must meet the following requirements: 

• It is obliged that you have a detailed understanding of human anatomy, Medical Terminology, Treatments and Procedures. 

• You must be able to understand abbreviations and transcribe them in their full form. It is required that you know how to reference terms used. 

• Must have the ability to accurately Transcribe what is being said and meant by the Dictator, despite possible distractions and low quality audio. 

• A Stronghold of The English Language including Grammar, Punctuation and spelling!. 

• Good knowledge of your own computer system.

It is not mentioned a minimum typing speed or any specialist equipment such as a Headset, foot pedal, or professional transcription software. 

All of which will help you to get the job done faster. 

If you are not able to meet any of the requirement, consider, Online bookkeeping, Proofreading, becoming a Virtual Assistant or teaching English Online.

Set working hours are not mentioned for this job. 

Although it is common for independent contractors to set their own hours often Medical Transcription work requires the work to be undertaken during in patient hours. 

There is no indication of the method used to calculate your rate of pay, be it per line or per audio minute. 

There is no indication at all of what you will be paid by StenoMed. I could not find anything from independent sites like Glassdoor or Indeed.com. 

This is not indicated on their website or careers page either. 

There is no information as to how you will be paid, be it check, direct deposit or by Paypal or any other means.

I have been able to find out From MT Stars that you are paid weekly. 

There is no mention of their work being processed by US based transcriptionists only or any location dependent restrictions placed on their careers page. 

I can only assume they are happy to accept international applications. 

If your eye is caught by a work from home opportunity, always check them out by doing your background checks. 

One good place I always look at is the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, there is no listing for StenoMed on the BBB database. 

By default, their rating is Unaccredited and Not Rated. 

In this part of my reviews I like to give an insight as to what it is like to work for a company from an insiders point of view, from ex-employees or current employees. 

Unfortunately, there is no listing at all for StenoMed.com on Glassdoor or Indeed.com. 

This Thread "I Work For StenoMed" from a work from home forum that focuses on Medical Transcription gives very mixed reviews and opinions. 

There are a few things that I like about StenoMed which are: 

• Their Requirements are easily met by most people. 
• They are a real work from home opportunity
• Long established 10+ years

There are a few things that I did not like about StenoMed which were: 

• No mention or accredation with the BBB. 
• No indication of their rate of pay or how they will pay you. 
• Very "Ghostly" with a low level of presence online. 
• Horrible dated site design!. 

Yes, 

You can make money as an independent contractor and work from home with this company. 

But, 

How much you can earn, well, your guess is as good as mine!. 

I have not uncovered any information, detail or allegations of fraud or deceptive behaviour by StenoMed, or accusations of them not paying a salary. 

In my opinion it is fair to say StenoMed are not a scam. 

I am apprehensive about this company due to the lack of information anywhere particularly where pay is concerned. 

Concerning also is the very dated look to the site - it is one that would not exactly convince clients of their service or to use them for anything. Very amateurish. 

I suggest not taking this any further. You have much better alternatives, including getting your clients, freelancing and having greater control over your working life.
