Motives Cosmetics Review

What Is Motives Cosmetics?

Motives Cosmetics, is a multilevel marketing business founded by Loren Ridinger in 1997.

As you can already guess by the name, the company focuses on the beauty industry and cosmetics.

Motives Cosmetics sell their products in Malaysia, Australia, Canada, America, United Kingdom, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Straight off the bat I know the operation of their business in both Hong Kong and Singapore is rather questionable due to the simple fact that the running and operation of multi level marketing businesses are prohibited by law in both those countries.

Particularly speaking Singapore, who do not differentiate between a MLM and pyramid scheme in their laws.

The company as a business is no small fry with offices in several countries and, using the Kardashians for publicity campaigns.

Their target market and audience does appear to be women from ages of late teen to 40+ who simply want to look glamorous and beautiful.

As far as great ads and razzmatazz goes this company has it in abundance.

If you watch the video you will know exactly what I mean.

One thing to be aware of is that Motives Cosmetics don't have a unique angle or product and they are operating in a busy market.

Other similar Companies in the Beauty market include:

  1. Riway International
  2. Younique
  3. Nerium
  4. Perfectly Posh
  5. SeneGenece International
  6. Nu Skin
  7. Seacret
  8. Essante Organics
  9. Arbonne

Motives Cosmetics Product Line

The product line for Motives Cosmetics do appear to be high end cosmetics for women with a variety of products for the eyes, lips, face and skin.

The whole products line is very extensive as far as I can see for each of the four categories they have just about every thing that a woman would want.

Bare with me ladies, I'm a bloke! handsome and bald, ..and clueless as far as make up goes!

  • Eyes: Eye liner, eye shadow, eye shadow pallets, eye brow kits, pencils, mascara and more.
  • Lips: Lipstick, lip shine, lip gloss, lip liner, lip primers, lip pallets and more.
  • Face: Foundation, concealer, powders, bronzers, pressed powders, blushers and more
  • Skin: Cleansers, toners, moisturisers, serums, day creams, night creams.

There is also a line of sun cream and nail care products.

There really is a very large product range and as far as I can tell pretty much everything a woman would be looking for as far as beauty and make up goes. I advise checking out their product line here

Motives Cosmetics make the claim that their brand does not use the following ingredients:

  • Talo
  • Paraben
  • Fragrance

It is also claimed that their products are hypoallergic.

This does not mean that their products do not contain a number of other known toxins such as:

  • Dipropylene Glycol
  • Potassium Hydroxide
  • Alcoholadenosine
  • Carbonate Caprylyl Methicone
  • Aluminum Hydroxide
  • Silica

To name only a few. According to what I found here. This might not actually be as true as it appears to be.

Motives Cosmetics Ingredients

Paraben Free? 5 Parabens in that product.

Despite the claims of being paraben free, going by the image above this appears not to be the case at all.

I am beginning to understand why it is so difficult to find an ingredients list on the official website.

To get that ingredient list I had to scour the web to find it.

An ingredient list should be readily available for every product that goes on or in the body.

At the very least to prevent you getting an allergic reaction!.

The Motives Cosmetics Compensation Plan

As it is with all network marketing companies there are two principle ways in which you can earn money with Motives Cosmetics:

  • 1. Direct Retail Sales: This is the sale of their products in exchange for a commission. You sell products and you earn money, a 30% commission.
  • 2. Recruitment: You recruit others into the business opportunity and earn pass up commissions based upon their performance.

There is actually a distinct lack of information in regards to what the compensation plan is and this is quite alarming.

No company with a business opportunity attached to them should keep their compensation plan hidden away.

It very questionable at best and sparks out a huge level of distrust. Practically all MLM opportunities that I have reviewed have their compensation plan right there for public viewing.

Without an official document to go by the best I can tell you from "bits and bobs" found around on the blog-o-sphere is that the company operates using the binary compensation model where you are required to build 2 teams, a left team and a right team.

And commissions are 30%.

The video below made by a representative will give you much better and more accurate understanding of the compensation plan than I can.

Is Motives Cosmetics Accredited By The BBB?

I always check out a company to see how they are rated with consumer groups and organisations.

In my humble opinion this does give us an idea as how they treat their customers and how they do business. To a certain degree we can judge how much we can trust a company.

Motives cosmetics as such is not rated not accredited by the BBB.

However, it must be said that the official icon of the BBB when clicked redirects you to the Market America rating, giving me the impression and pretty much the confirmation that the site and business is run and owned by Market America.

Market America is fully accredited and holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Their rating is not that of Motives Cosmetics, who are unaccredited, unlisted and not rated in their own right.

Motives Cosmetics

Common Complaints

I find it very surprising that there appear to be no complaints online about motives cosmetics.

Not from customers, not from former distributors. I am suspicious of a brand protection and clean up going on, which , in case you are wondering it does happen.

No complaints about Motives Cosmetics. I find that hard to believe. very hard. #MLM

Are Motives Cosmetics Cruelty Free?

I don't think that the products by Motive Cosmetics are Cruelty free. The reason for me thinking this is the lack of anything on their site stating their are cruelty free.

This as you could and would imagine is a very strong selling point for their products and most certainly justifies an elevated price.

Also, currently speaking at the time of writing, there is no "cruelty free" free logo from any known or accepted organisation to confirm that they are.

Are Motives Cosmetics FDA Approved?

This is a question that I really want to address!.

Call this a preemptive strike if you wish.

There is absolutely no indication of the company being approved by the FDA at all.

If, the company claim that their products are FDA approved you can rest assured that their products are not 100% natural and contain chemical based ingredients.

The FDA does not approve of any natural products as they are seen as food sources. No Approval is given by the FDA for natural products used on or in the human body.

Worth of note, not a single one of their products appear to be manufactured in a cGMP certified facility. This is evident from the lack of showing the cGMP status.

cGMP is a certificate given out by the FDA after inspection of a manufacturing facility confirming that the products are made to a set standard and in clean environment. cGMP stands for Certified Good Manufacturing Practices.

What I Liked About Motives Cosmetics

There are some good things that I liked about Motives Cosmetics:

  • High Quality Products

They do appear to have high quality products that women have a tendency to like a lot. There a lot of positive reviews about their product online.

  • No Shortage Of Clients

Given that all women wear make up of some kind and to some degree. As a distributor all you are really doing is asking you potential clients to switch brands.

What I Did Not Like About Motives Cosmetics

There are a lot of things that I don't like about the is company.

  • Riding Off The Back Of Market America

The company should get their own BBB accreditation and rating and surf of the back of another.

This very misleading to claim that Motives Cosmetics is A+ rated and fully accredited when actual fact they are not, it is the parent company that is, which officially speaking is a separate entity.

  • No Income Disclosure Statement On The Website

I guess they have something to hide income wise when it comes down to what their distributors are earning.

In my experience this is never a good thing when a MLM is hiding their disclosure statement.

  • No Compensation Plan

This is actually the craziest and dumbest thing I have ever seen a business do!. What don't you want your distributors to know how they will be compensated?

This inspires a huge level of distrust.

Can You Make Money With Motives Cosmetics

I don't think that you can make much money at all with Motives Cosmetics.

If you could the company and business would be proud to display it and show their income disclosure statement on their website.

Is Motives Cosmetics A Pyramid Scheme?

This is a question that I nor anyone can answer with a degree of accuracy due to the fact that the compensation plan is no where to be seen on their website.

It could be, it might be, it may very well be I can't disprove that due to the fact that I have no official company issued compensation plan to study.

This question I'll refrain from answering until I see a compensation plan.

Is Motives Cosmetics

 A MLM Business Opportunity?

Yes, this much I do know, I can deduce this from information gathered from other sources. They use the binary compensation model to pay out and thus it can be said that Motives Cosmetics is an Multilevel Marketing Business.

Is Motives Cosmetics A Scam Or Legit?

In my opinion Motives Cosmetics is not a scam but they do behave in a very amateurish and highly unprofessional manner.

Something that really does not do their 20+ year history any justice.
