Defining Your Niche!

One of the most important aspects of blogging and niche site marketing is drilling down and finding a specific sector of a market. This is also referred to a "niching down" or drilling down on a niche.

This aids your efforts in establishing yourself in a more unique and not so crowded area due to having less sites to compete with overall.

Thankfully there are many ways to home in and find your niche in the beauty market sector and I am pretty sure that you can come up with a few ways yourself.

Ways in which you can break up the beauty market include breaking it down into specific and exact areas of beauty care such as skin care, hair care and make up.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

You can then break those sub markets down into specific areas also such as natural, organic or leaving them as they are (i.e you are not fussed about promoting Pharmaceutical or chemical based products).

You can then break them down further if you deem it to be necessary, or essential by breaking down into particular age groups.

This is I would consider as a great idea as beauty treatments for some over the age of 40 or 50 and 60 is very different from that of a much young person under the age of 30 giving you are more targeted audience and readership.

Anti wrinkle cream is of greater interest for a 53 year old woman than a fresh faced 20 year old lady. Targeting a more specific audience in this manner helps you to boost sales and win those juicy commissions.

Other such ideas of defining your niche can of course include the very popular and yet specific K-Beauty and J-Beauty - I am of course referring to Japanese and Korean Beauty techniques, methods and products.

Let the #beauty of what you love be what you do. #Niche Blogging

Another viable option for beauty bloggers when it comes down to defining their niche is using a technique or method called sexing.

This technique involves listing your hobbies passion and things that you are interested in and having a really good thought about it and creating a blog around mixing in one or two of those interests or passions with beauty blogging.

Such ideas could include:

Of course you can add in ideas and interests of your own. Beauty & Travel, Fashion & Beauty, Fitness and Beauty as well as Food and Beauty, not forgetting Beauty and Mommy Blogging all make for great "Twin Topic" blogs.

I recommend And Suggest that you bookmark this guide and article (Ctrl +D) so that you can come back to it and start reading where you left off and not miss out on any of the awesome tips and techniques

Better still, take a few seconds to sign up for my 7 day 100% Free E-course on blogging and you will get absolutely everything you need to succeed delivered via email over the next week!

Adding one more is of course more work, you can also come up with great ideas like Beauty, Food And Fitness! or Beauty, Travel and Fashion.

If you are new to blogging, this is not something that I recommend that you do due to the workload, and of course lack of skill when it come down to the art of blogging.

It is something to keep in mind as you build out your beauty blog and at some point in the future add in another topic, this is a viable option, a very viable one!. Certainly the best way to approach taking on such a large multiple topic site.

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything #beautiful, for #beauty is God's handwriting #Blogging

Once you have defined your niche and had a good thought about what kind of beauty blog you are going to build and what topic and sub topic you are going to create content around.

Let's now move forward, and get a solid foundation for your blog built by setting your goals and defining your target audience. This is some very important stuff to take seriously and sets you up to succeed as you can't sell everything to everyone.

And you WILL get way more, way, way, way more commissions coming your way when you know your target audience and create targeted content for them.

Remember, Control +D to bookmark this page!

Because more money IS waiting for you. The question is: WILL YOU TAKE IT?!?

Setting Goals

Beginning with an end in mind is one of the most important parts of building your blog. Starting out with an end in mind is one of the strongest and best things that you can do.

Once you have an end goal in mind you can then start to map your road to success. What do you want to achieve with your beauty blog?. By this I mean not only money and sales wise. How much traffic?. Exposure, a famous and well known blog?.

Do you want multiple streams of income from your blog?. Do you want to launch your own products?

Digital products or Physical products?.

These are all possibilities to consider. The very minimum and very achievable goal is to build a beauty blog that produces a full time income that replaces your job allowing your to work for yourself from the very comfort of your home.

Defining Your Audience And Getting Targeted

Now you have your goals set and an idea of what you want to achieve with your beauty niche site the next step is defining your audience.

This helps you to create more specific and targeted content for your crowd and to significantly get more sales. Having a defined target audience is a serious sales booster.

Do take your time with this and give some serious though to who they are and build an avatar.

  • Give your Avatar a Name, who is she/he?
  • How old are they?
  • What is their level of education?
  • What kind of job do they do?
  • What is their income level?
  • Where are they from?
  • What is their marital status? Married? Single? got children? How many?
  • What are their pain points and problem areas in relation to your niche?
  • How can you help them?
How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

Define your exact target audience and create content that caters to them and their needs, wants and more importantly their pain points.

It is this last part that building a successful niche site is all about - helping people to solve their pain points.

Provide solutions to pertaining problems and pain points with quality products and you will not need to do any selling!.

People are already seeking the solutions!. make sure your solution is better than the others available, or the best option for them.

By defining your exact target audience you help yourself to create content that is specific and targeted towards that particular crowd and not generic and aimed for everyone.

Makeup is not a mask that covers up your #beauty; it's a weapon that helps you express who you are from the inside. #Blogging

This has additional underlying benefits in regards to your efforts in generating traffic on both social media and search engines as better and more targeted content will attract a more defined social following of which will interact more, giving greater engagement on social media.

This, greater traffic and interaction on social media in regards to your posts and your site gives a nice little bit of ranking juice when it comes down to ranking well on the main search engines.

These are the fundamentals that make a big difference in your ability to succeed as a beauty blogger.

The next part, Branding and the importance is something that hardly anyone else at this time of writing is teaching.

Do pay attention as branding is something that is very important!.

Creating Your Brand

Creating your brand is something that sets your apart and indeed head and shoulders above the rest of the internet crowd and forms part of your rock solid foundation getting you and your beauty blog ready for success.

Also, by being properly branded, which ever form of branding it is that you chose looks much more professional and builds trust on a deeper level than some random guy or gal with a website!.

WARNING!

visitors to a website have a tendency to trust beautiful well designed sites with quality content than those don't.

More trust equals more clicks on your links which means more of those juicy bank account fattening commissions!.

Creating a quality trusted brand mean standing by a few, typically 5-6 top products/types of products related to your particular beauty niche and standing by them and NOT recommending absolutely every single product out there.

A very important part of branding is your marketing strategy. Stick to tried and trusted high quality marketing strategy if you are to be seen in a good light. Spam and just about nobody will take you seriously.

There are many aspects to creating a brand, and distinct types of branding. Briefly I will outline them and give you my thoughts and advice regarding which you ought to follow for best results.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

Always keep a thoughtful eye out for your brand in everything you do online.

Branding For Skin Care Beauty And MakeUp Blogs

  • Personal Branding For Your Blog

Personal branding is very much what it sounds like and is usually the use of an individuals name and image forming part of the entities or business's public image.

Think David Beckham, Leo Messi and other such famous sports stars in this instance. In the world of business and blogging usually the blog or website is the name of a person and terminates in .com.

As you can imagine this type of branding will involve a fair bit of you!. For beauty blogs and bloggers of all genres and niches strong personal branding is something that will help you go far.

In this instance you are going to be the name and face of your blog.

  • Business Branding For Beauty Bloggers

Like myself, you might find that your name with the suffix of dot com is taken and you have no choice but to use a business or organisation name.

In which case do choose a catchy and memorable name that ends with .com, .net, or ,org and relates some what to what your blog is about. Do avoid where possible hyphens, dashes or numbers.

If you are struggling for a name have a look at Domain Wheel Website for inspiration and ideas.

Because you are already imagining yourself as an awesome personally branded beauty blog!. The question is: Will you SATISFY YOUR ADORING FANS BY TAKING ACTION and building that awesome beauty blog?!?

Co-Branding

This very much what you will see on most of the successful blogs. Co-Branding is very much the mix of what I have previously mentioned, a hybrid of business and personal branding.

Quite often you will see that your own name has been taken as a website name and there is not much that you can do about that unfortunately, thus in such circumstances you can then proceed with personal branding but using a business name.

It is in my humble opinion the best type of branding as you get all the benefits of personally branding a site with your name and face and a catchy name that you have decided on that is related wholly to your industry.

Think Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income, Brian Dean of Backlinko as example of co-branding in the digital age.

Viable Business Models For Beauty Bloggers To Consider

As we move forward and take a highly professional attitude towards building your blog and having talked about and discussed the issue of how you are going to brand your site you now must give serious consideration to what business model you are going to use.

The sooner you have it fixed in your mind that you are building a brand and business the better it is for you - because this is exactly what you are doing.

You are building a business! When you have this attitude your thought process and mind set is far more serious and professional than that of "just building a blog".

Authority Site Business Model

An authority site is as the name suggest an authority within a niche or specific market. These are usually the incredibly well designed sites that seem to have a never ending abundance of high quality informative and helpful content.

Often they seem difficult to beat or to compete with but fortunately you don't really have to. All it takes is collaboration and persistent effort.

An authority site has a large number of articles, a mix of content from info graphics to articles, to podcast to video - essentially touching all bases as far as content goes.

Warning! - F.O.M.O ALERT!

Fear Of Missing Out On Taking My FREE 7 Day Blogging Course May Lead To You A Melancholic State Of Infinite Sadness Due To Missing Out On The Opportunity To Change Your Life For Ever And For The Better, Leaving You With The Eternal State Of Mind Thinking "What If I Actually Built That Darn Blog!"

The income model is usually taking the same approach producing revenue from a variety of sources including affiliate marketing, advertising, your own products membership and sponsored posts.

Quite often with beauty bloggers brand partnership or ambassadorship is possible, very possible with high traffic and popular bloggers.

(I have heard of sums of money in the mid 5 to six figure range for exclusive partnership deals!)

Traffic, as you can imagine is varied and independent of any one source. Authority sites tend to "own" their own traffic with a strong influx from email, subscriber, and direct from readers entering the URL into the address bar!.

There is no real #beauty without some slight imperfection. #Blogging

Click to Tweet

By being independent and "owning" their traffic I mean they, authority sites, have a strong independence from search engine and social media algorithm updates and remain independent of such changes either in the good and bad sense.

This allows authority sites to operate profitably and grow regardless of what happens in regards to elements that they can't change or effect.

In my opinion it this model that you ought to emulate an become an authority blogger in your market or niche.

Thrive Leads Shortcode could not be rendered, please check it in Thrive Leads Section!

The Authority site business model is one that offer unlimited potential for growth as a blog and as a business.

It is the one in which I always use because I can start small and minimise risk to both traffic and income by spreading revenue across a number of avenues and of course traffic from a number of different channels!.

Generating An Income For Your Beauty Blog

Making money from your blog is actually one of the easiest processes that there is once you have everything else in place - good niche, strong brand, a fair amount of good quality engaging content and traffic.

We'll get to the traffic part a little bit later in the article.

The methods of monetization we briefly mentioned in the above authority site business model and they are affiliate marketing, creating your own products, advertising, membership site and sponsored content.

Let's cover those in more detail.

Affiliate Marketing

This by far the most popular and most common way of producing revenue for websites is affiliate marketing. It involves the sale of someone else's product in exchange for a direct commission.

The direct commissions gained are usually a set commission or in the case of monthly subscription products an ongoing income for as long as an individual remains a customer.

The affiliate marketing model offers the possibility of an unlimited income due to the fact that the more sales that you can generate the more commissions you will receive.

Later I will show you some interesting affiliate programs for beauty bloggers.

Advertising

The belts and braces philosophy and safety in numbers that I like to adopt naturally involves the use of a number of different income sources and having adverts placed on your site is a very cool and very passive way of producing an income from your blog.

When it comes to display adverts there is no need for you to go hunting for clients and businesses to place their adverts on your site.

There are variety of agencies that do that for you and all you need to do is place a little piece of their "magical code" on to your site and they handle the rest, providing you with ads on your site.

When your website visitors click on those adverts you get paid on a per click basis.

Do not in any circumstances encourage fake clicks from your friends or family as you will just end up shooting yourself in the foot and get kicked off of the advertising network.

Such networks to consider include Google Adsense and Media Vine. The former, Google adsense you use right away once you have some basic content like 10 posts or so and then once you are pulling in some more traffic you can switch out to Media Vine.

Media Vine is a network that pays better than google adsense and are currently the network of choice amongst bloggers but you can't start straight away with them as they require you to have at least 25,000 sessions per month to qualify.

Generally speaking Media Vine can produce between $20 to $40 per 1000 sessions, which for a qualifying site mean a sweat free $500 to $1000 income in addition to affiliate sales!.

That is the power and potential of adding clickable adverts to your blog.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

You too have the potential of earning money from advertising

Because you know your life is going to be so much better with all those advertising and affiliate dollars!. The Question is: Are you going to GO OUT AND GRAB THE MONEY for yourself or leave them to a competitor?!?

Your Own Product Range

While making your own range of products is by no means obliged and, in my opinion, something that you ought to give some proper and serious consideration to when you have reasonable traffic.

By reasonable amount of traffic I mean at very minimum 1,000 visitors daily. In the beauty blogging industry you do have many options when it comes to your own product range.

The most obvious and prevalently obvious option is selling your own range of beauty products that are made for you by contacting manufacturers or manufacturer's agents on sites like Alibaba.

This is actually much easier and straight forward than it actually sounds. You can also contact local fabricants in your own country which may save you a whole bunch of admin tasks and loop holes and licencing issues to jump through when it comes to importing goods.

The other less obvious choice is your own digitally accessible or downloadable beauty tips, techniques and tutorials. Such video tutorials I am sure will be a huge hit with your audience.

Membership Site

A membership premium subscriber site made up of blog posts and video tutorials available only for your fee paying clients that is updated on a frequent basis is a very good viable option - perhaps more interesting than the option of creating and selling digital products as your subscribers get access to updates and all new premium material.

Sponsored Content

As crazy and sh*t assed nutty as it sounds people will pay you to post their content on your site!

As brilliant as this sounds you get free content that draws in traffic from search engines and other site owners and bloggers in your industry will willingly pay you good money for the privilege of it!

The higher your domain authority the more you can charge!. What the poster is getting in exchange is an search engine ranking aiding powerful quality backlink for your site to theirs.

For these guest posters you will still ultimately own the content as it is published on your site. Thus you ought to retain full editorial control over what gets published and what does not.

You should only accept content that is of interest to your audience and full SEO you ought to oversee yourself. Do check it on copyscape and make sure it is 100% original.

Obviously you are seeking original content and quality content at that. My own advice here is to attempt to lure guest posters on your site into creating longer content, which has the tendency to rank better and maintain your own site  integrity by offering certain benefits for longer content.

Such ideas include an extra link or reduction in price for longer articles. For example 1,000 word article 1 link only in the author bio, which they provide.

1,500 word article, cheaper than the 1000 word article  permit one link in the content and one in the author bio.

2,000 word article, cheaper than the 1000 word article still and offer two in content links and one in the author bio.

Pricing examples:

  • 1000 words $100, 1 link in author bio
  • 1,500 words $75, 1 link in author bio and 1 in content link
  • 2,000 words $50 1 link in author bio and 2 in content link.

As you can see a 2,000 word article in this example is half the price of a 1,000 word one and includes 2 in content links - the type that is highly regarded by google. Making it a far better and more viable option than a a short 1,000 word article with no in content links.

Thrive Leads Shortcode could not be rendered, please check it in Thrive Leads Section!

You can play around and test variations as to what gets you more guest posters and thus free content and longer higher quality ones.

Other such variations include offering do follow links on longer posts and nofollow on shorter ones enticing your potential guest posters to create longer articles.

Having guest posters on your site is not always about how much money you can earn it is about the quality and length of the posts and the ability of those to draw in traffic for your site, traffic which can result in sales for you!.

Do insist on those that write on your site promote their articles to their following on social media and their email list and you ought to do the same.

It is also about building relationships and if someone with a kick ass A-W-E-S-O-M-E blog wants to post on your site...Amazing! build that relationship and see if you can be a guest on theirs! And you can leverage their following and pull in a whole new following!

In this case..waive the fee!.

Best Affiliate Programs For Beauty Bloggers

When it comes to generating revenue for your blog affiliate marketing is one of the very best methods that there is. Let's list and talk a little bit about your options as far as affiliate programs go.

  • Amazon Associates

Amazon has products for absolutely everything and beauty products are no exception at all.

Commissions for Amazon products mostly fall in the 4.5% category but luxury beauty currently falls in the rather nice 10% region!.

One of the strong points of Amazon is its trust factor amongst consumers which results in a higher conversion rate when compared to independent retailers.

Also, when you get a sale you get a commission on everything and not only the product that you promoted which can all add up!.

The downside is of course the rather low commissions and very short cookie duration. The cookie lasts only 24 hours which is very short but does get extended to 90 days when something is purchased.

Because you want to make the world a more beautiful place with your beauty routines, tips and tricks!. The Question is: Will you STEP UP AND SHARE THOSE TIPS and make more money in the process?!?

let's face it, any traffic is not going to do the job, simply put the wrong traffic is about as useful as no traffic at all!.

And of course no sales and zero commissions. Nada!.

Thankfully though, in this day and age traffic, and good quality targeted traffic is plentiful and available in an abundance!. Thanks in kind to Mr Zukerberg and social media that darned traffic is everywhere and easily available.

It is as simple as having a little thought, going out on the hunt and reeling them in!. Just simply find out where they are hanging out and go get them.

Just to add, and and absolute MUST is to have a wide a varied traffic source. Make no bones about that!.

And the same goes for social media, have a varied source of where your traffic is coming from. The reason being safety and security of your business.

Imagine you are getting tens of thousands of hits on a monthly basis from say Facebook and they change the algorithm or just plain old decide to shut you out...what ya gonna do?

You have lost a massive amount of traffic!

But, if that 10,000+ traffic from social media was diversified into 4 sources you would of course be on much stronger ground if anything happened to any one of the 4 sources.

This is why I recommend at least 3 social media +YouTube - just to mention it the video giant is a search engine and social media due to the way it operates and is set up.

And YouTube is a must - you got no choice here as it strongly helps in humanising your brand and business.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

Social Media is an important aspect of traffic generation, but don't get drawn into wasting too much time there. I kick start my day with an hours Social media and one hour before sleepy time!

  • Facebook

Without a doubt the absolute king of all social media sites and the one just about everyone and their grandmother is on!.

I always say safety in numbers and it is a darned good idea to have a back up facebook account, your personal one and one you use for business and one for your pages and groups that you own give joint admin access to both!.

A large part of what we, as marketers, are doing on social media is building communities and just now there is nothing that beats the interactivity of facebook groups.

Thrive Leads Shortcode could not be rendered, please check it in Thrive Leads Section!

Under the current algorithm the social media powerhouse does not limit the visibility or reach of facebook groups which is very much unlike their facebook pages.

You should, however, use both. Simply for branding reasons and get your URL in there to give google a big nudge "hello this site is a brand...set us apart from the regular internet junk".

One of the main differences between pages and groups is that facebook pages are more of a one way communication Vs two way interactivity of groups.

It is sufficient to say that having a group of raving enthusiastic fans is brilliant for your brand awareness and of course traffic to your blog.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

A group of adoring fans is great for your brand awareness.

One key aspect for all social media is to absolutely freaking never ever spam any form of social media be it your own group or page or one that belongs to someone else.

Do that and you are just trash..in everyone's eyes. You will end up doing an immense amount of damage to your reputation and brand. Nobody will take you seriously.

If you are going to do that you might as well go grab your phone, get your car keys and make videos in your car about your fab opportunity to make gazzilions in the next 3 days! and just hope beyond hope that somebody takes you seriously!...

....Just like all those clueless spam marketers that trash out the internet!.

Do participate in many of the more active and larger groups that are related and targeted to your niche and participate in them as a positive and respected member.

People will become curious about you and your contribution and gravitate towards you and checkout your profile, befriend you and see your blog address in your profile.

Once they befriend you they will see in your own wall postings the occasional mention of your own group and will likely join, either straight away or later when they see your social activity popping up in their news feed.

Once you are well established and well respected member of certain facebook groups can you post or drop a link to either your site or your own group - but do so ONLY with the permission of the group owner.

You can, of course offer some financial compensation for posting an ad to your group, or offer to sponsor a group. This is better done a little later when you have some rapport with the group owners or admins.

Getting kicked out of a highly active 50,000 strong group before you have built your own strong and highly active group is and will probably hurt your efforts a lot when it comes to organically growing your own community.

Because you know you can build an avid social media following and making a living out of it sounds awesome!: The question is will you just dream about it or will you GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND TAKE ACTION and actually do it?!?

  • Twitter

Behind facebook groups, which can be slow to grow, twitter is one of my absolute faves! Simply for a mix of personal love and, ok. I'll admit it...addiction!

Twitter is something that is just made for bloggers and you can get good quality traffic from this social media site. Being pretty instant does not mean you go straight away and spam it to high heavens!.

Spam anywhere is just a huge no-no!. Besides damaging your brand reputation it just does not produce any kind of results in regards to quality traffic.

Just like anything else and all other forms of social media it is absolutely crucial that you get a targeted following towards your niche site.

To do that perform a twitter search using keywords that relate to your blog and find users and profiles that have a lot of followers. Save or take note of 5-6 of those profiles and Follow their followers.

This strategy of following other twitter users of popular accounts in your niche market brings about the likely hood of you getting a targeted following as those users have already indicated an interest in your niche by following a popular account.

It is also quite likely that they will follow you back, particularly if you are posting and tweeting content that is of interest to them.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

Twitter offer the ability to grow and audience quickly and get a lot of instant traffic.

All this following is quite tedious to do if you do it manually and can take up too much of your time and thus I suggest that you use a tool like Tweepi - the very one I use.

If you are just starting out the free version is fine, sure it has limited features but it can and will help you to grow your account and is idea until you get 2000 - 3000 followers. After that - to grow your account substantially, and I do mean substantially as things really to start to snowball to 30,000-40,000 followers in only a few months!.

I started from zero to around 40,000 in only 4 or 5 months! using tweepi premium and for like 10mins a day!.

Thrive Leads Shortcode could not be rendered, please check it in Thrive Leads Section!

However, not all followers are created equal!.

Having 40,000 inactive, foreign (non English or not the language of your blog), or have few followers themselves does not count for much!.

This is where the power of being very selective of who your follow and using the premium version of Tweepi kicks in plus a few set rules.

Personally, I am not going to follow anyone who has been inactive for more than 7 days!.

Or has less than 100 followers, or does n't tweet in English!.

This is just pure and simple twitter logic. If someone has only 5 followers and retweets my tweet..thanks but..I'd rather gain more exposure to the retweet and thus more potential brand awareness and traffic from that retweet or mention!.

Thus I can be assured that every retweet I get going out to at least 100 twitter accounts and is in English!.

Also, a nice way of getting more followers is by checking your Twitter Analytics on a monthly basis and seeing who your most followed follower is and fully research what they like, what they tweet and specifically target tweets towards that person and tag them in the tweet in hope for a retweet and thus exposure for yourself to their following!.

As far as hash tags go, I see far too many people spamming or messing up their tweets by using a ton of hash tags!

This is a huge no-no! not only does it make your tweets look ugly and unreadable - regardless of how cool you think it may look - the fact remains they are darn ugly and they just, as far as research goes, don't actually get you more exposure.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

Building your twitter presence and tribe can be done easily during your coffee or tea break!

The idea number of hash tags is, surprisingly just 2 or 3. Personally I use just 2 and might add in a 3rd if I really need to.

Do make the hash tags relevant to both your tweet and your niche. Finding the right tag is as simple as using the free version of rite tag app.

This app will tell you good short term "now" tags and long term Tags to use for maximum exposure. I suggest that you mix up your tweets using both for a steady flow of traffic to your site, particularly in tweets where you have put your link.

Finally, use video or images in your tweets as these take up much more space and this greater visibility in your followers twitter feed!.

Pretty Twitter Ninja Stuff there!.

Remember building a kick ass targeted and active audience on twitter only takes 10-15 min a day! Something you can do during your tea break!.

  • Pinterest

As beauty blogger, in fact, forget that....as a blogger in any niche you really ought to be using Pinterest, which is far more than just a bunch of board with photos or a social network for women!

It is a visual pictoral search engine!

Get this bit right - it is up to 3x more effective at getting traffic over to your blog or website than any other form of social media. Add to that that far more purchase based decisions are made on Pinterest than other social media platforms.

With that, you certainly have a darn good social site that you would be foolish to dismiss out of hand!.

Because you are a diva on social media and you just can't wait to pin your top tips and talk about your success!. The Only Question is: Are just gonna day dream about it or are you gonna BUILD THE BEAUTIFUL BEAUTY BLOG?!?

Like Facebook and Twitter it is absolutely essential that you get a targeted following on Pinterest.

To do that, to the targeted audience much the same techniques of finding influencers in your niche on Pinterest that have a large following and follow their followers.

As a word, I have the tendency of following only those that are active and have at least 100 followers and have made at least 100 repins...I want folks that have a following to follow me and are likely to repin something!.

Building a following on this platform is a lot slower than twitter but in a few months, as little as 4 or 5 months you can expect to have 15,000 followers with absolutely no effort at all on your part!.

Getting followers is something that you can do yourself, or get software to do it for you. Doing it yourself is cool and kinda tedious but for only $28 and lifetime use and updates Ninja Pinner is the very tool that I use.

Quite often I just leave it sitting there running away in the background following targeted followers and unfollowing those that don't follow back after a while!.

It requires absolutely no effort!. As a matter of fact it is running in the background right now as I write this very article!.

Getting the very best out of Pinterest is to divide your boards into categories that you have on your blog, and post images related to that topic to that board. Use keywords as the board names to help Pinterest users to find them.

Also, use hash tags to help users find the individual pins and add a relevant 50-100 word introduction for each pin.

Being essentially a social network repin other people pins, comment on them and pin your pins to other users boards where you are permitted to do so.

Interestingly Infographics and "How To's" work very well here and don't forget to put your logo on the bottom of your pins - brand recognition.

For brand integrity do pin beautiful well designed pins and infographics.

  • YouTube

Not quite what you may have had in mind when it comes down to Social media, but in the grand scheme of things and the interactivity, thumbs up, thumbs down, comment, sharing makes YouTube very much a social site.

YouTube, brings in traffic that is of a higher quality than other social media. On average they spend longer on your site and view more pages than other traffic sources.

It is totally acceptable to brand  your video with an intro, logo and to mention your site on your video.

However, don't go over the top and smack in your link in absolutely every video description as this will end up getting you banned from the video network.

Something to do, and what does work well is to encourage comments on your videos, to show social activity, and reply to all of those comments.

Thrive Leads Shortcode could not be rendered, please check it in Thrive Leads Section!

Also as it is a social network do comment on videos and channels that are similar to your niche market. This does aid your ability for your channel to rank a little bit and every little helps.

When it comes to making your videos do aim to get the best quality possible as your are of course representing your brand.

Appearing on your video helps to humanise your brand which creates and establishes trust and this draws in loyal fans, regular traffic and sales.

For beauty blogs, Video is, in my opinion an absolute must. There are many angles of approach including makeup tutorials and straight out "unboxing" videos to full on reviews and demonstrations of products.

Getting Organic Traffic From Google

This is something you might consider as complex or complicated to do, nothing could be further from the truth!

Search Engine Optimisation, the art of priming your content and articles for search engines is a simple as understanding googles business model at the very heart of what they need.

And that is quality in depth content.

Without quality content google has absolutely nothing. Think of Google as a giant referral agency in which they earn their bacon by referring their internet users to articles and content that is highly related and of top quality in relation to what they typed into the search bar.

...If they couldn't do that or if they fail to, internet users will look for and start using another search engine.

It is often said that content is king, I tend to disagree!, QUALITY content is king!. In fact I go a little bit further and say quality in depth and detailed content is King, Queen and Duke!.

I know I keep harping on with the "B" word, but, yes, absolutely, quality content is brilliant for branding!.

Imagine your beauty blog having top quality tutorial's, how to articles and so on, and very quickly your audience will grow and keep flocking to you because they will associate as being the one that provides quality information that they are seeking.

Keyword Research

Keyword Research is the very beginning point of good SEO practice. A keyword research tool, and there are absolutely plenty of them, both free and paid, are in all essence tools that help you to brain storm ideas for what to write about on your blog.

Of course a keyword research tool does a heck of lot more than that, for example they help you to find keywords that are less competitive and easier to rank for and how much traffic a keyword or keyword phrase gets.

For clarification purposes, a keyword is simply a search term that you put into the search box in a search engine like google, bing or yahoo!.

Keywords tend to get split into two groups, short tail and long tail. These in the most simplistic of descriptions are simply the length of the keyword. Anything 3 words or less is short tail anything longer, 4 words or more can be considered as a long tail keyword

Naturally you are seeking the best possible keywords with about 50 or less competing sites (to begin with) and the most possible traffic that has at least 50 searches per month on average.

The subject regarding the art of keyword research and how to find great keywords for your website is far beyond the scope of this article, I have covered the topic extensively in this article "How To Find Keywords For A Website"

Because you know google is just going to LOVE your beautiful beauty blog!. The question is: Are you going to stun yourself, friends, and family and BUILD A LIFE CHANGING & HIGHLY PROFITABLE BEAUTY BLOG!

The Type Of Keywords To Target

What type of content created for your site obviously determines the direction in which you take it. The type of content that has a strong historical tendency of doing well over a period of time is helpful and question based articles.

I'm talking here about "How To's" and answering the pertaining pain points and questions that you readership may have.

  • Discovering Question Based Keywords

Finding question based keywords is super simple, absolutely so. You can easily find out what your target audience is searching for in Google, more so, what Questions they are entering in to Google's magic search box!.

Just go visit AnswerThePublic Website and type in some keywords related to your beauty niche site.

And boom!.

A ton of keywords for your to sift through and think about and make content around!.

Being intelligent and strategic in the content creation aspect of your site works incredibly well on many levels, some of which is very deep!.

For example,

When you answer questions in depth and with concise detail you gain the authority and trust of your readers as an expert in the field. This on many levels is great for your brand.

Also, some questions, not all, have the potential of being featured in position zero, above position 1 the search engine rankings page. Getting featured in this way brings in fantastic traffic and is immense for awareness of your site and brand.

Helping your readers helps to gain their trust and that trust turns into loyal and regular custom.

Answer The Public

Word wheel of question based keywords from answerthepublic.

  • Quora And Yahoo Questions

These two site are pretty amazing for finding out what questions are being asked by your audience. Simply log in to the sites and use the search bar and type in some keywords and phrases related to your niche and some of their questions will appear.

You can use these question based forums to actually put forward quality answers and thus enhance your sites awareness, exposure and traffic.

You can't just drop your link into the answer that you give in Quora, but you can have it highlighted in your profile so that it appears next to your name in your answer which is less spammy and more prestigious.

Given that your answers hang there on Quora forever your traffic potential is accumulative. A simple and easy strategy to employ is simply to answer one question every morning and one every evening and before you know it..in 25 months or so you will have 1,500 questions there all with the potential of getting clicked and pulling in traffic.

Thrive Leads Shortcode could not be rendered, please check it in Thrive Leads Section!

Other Keyword Types To Target

Other types of keywords that have a tendency to do well include those that are both helpful and related to the sales process in some way or another.

As much as we want to help solve peoples problems and be as helpful as we can, we do have our own itch to scratch and that is to generate revenue for our businesses.

This is by no means to say be all salesy and try sell stuff to your audience.

- This is something that you should never ever do. If you come across as salesy as there is no bigger turn off. Ironically, the less you try to "sell" the more you will actually sell.

...And the more helpful you will genuinely appear to be. It is very much a paradox of internet marketing and blogging.

How To Start A Beauty Blog

Don't be all salesy when it comes to your blog, be helpful and people will trust you more and this has a tremendous positive kick back effect on your brand.

Other such keyword phrases and topics to cover include "How To". By their very nature how to style articles are informative, helpful and are in terms of sales funnel quite high up, where they don't quite generate a lot of direct sales in the way in which "Best Of" or "Top" or "Products Name +Review" type of articles do.

Naturally speaking, "Best" style articles are great, particularly when you are naming the best 5 or best 10 lipstick, foundation or mascara for example, or other product related to your particular niche site.

This is a process you can repeat with "Top X" where X represents a number. You can also make Best and Top based articles highly informative by making them best way to...Or Top Ways To type  of articles.

The highest up in the sales funnel and sales process are review based keywords. To be clear, making a massive review based site is a big no no. Be helpful, be informative and stick behind 5-7 products at most.

How To Start A Beauty Blog Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

It is now time to answer your most pertaining questions related to starting a beauty blog

If your question is not answered here, please do ask it in the comments area below this article, I'll be delighted to answer it as best as I can and to the best of my knowledge.

  • What To Write In A Beauty Blog?

There is a number of topic that you could write about on a beauty blog. Those include the obvious hair, makeup, perfume, fashion, skin and body care related topics.

You can dive into these by offering tutorials, How To's, Instructional's and also write some "best of" posts about what you consider to be the best kind of products or best ways to do something I.e. best hair styles for the summer, quick make up tips.

Beauty and skin care routines can also be written about.

If you are running a niche specific site, one dedicated or angled at cruelty free then you could discuss what cosmetic manufacturers do when animal testing to create awareness of the issue.

For  a natural beauty site you can write about the damage that certain chemicals that are found in cosmetics can do to your health.

A very nice approach would be to make an ingredients list, like a glossary and write about what each ingredient does in terms of beauty, skin and body care, And then link out full articles within your site.

How To Start A Beauty Blog

As a beauty blogger you have a ton of things to write about - virtually unlimited when it comes to content given that you can expend and diversify into adjacent markets and niches!.

  • Is Beauty Blogging Saturated?

Beauty bloggers would have and perhaps love you to believe that!. The truth is no market or niche is truly saturated!.

There is always room for more blogs and bloggers to grow and grab their own share of the market. It is suffice to say that there is never too many shops on your local high street!.

There might be too few yes, but never too many. The consumers, and blog readers, will always gravitate to the ones that they like and enjoy the most.

It is up to you as a beauty blogger to take a proactive approach to go out and find out where your audience is hanging out and go out there and go get them!.

Many great sites, in many niches have still to be built!. I have entered the most competitive of niches and been told that "there is no way" that I would cut it in such niches!.

Truth be told, most site owners (90%) give up or quit inside a year and many just don't know how to manage, market or run their blogs in a professional and business like fashion that literally ensures their success.

Most of the time in difficult and competitive niches all I have to do was to be doggedly determined and keep at it and remain persistent and viola - traffic and money!.

Besides, the internet is still growing and it is just not going to go away anytime soon - or ever, in my opinion!. With only 50% of the world online on a regular basis the other half have still "to get with in". That's a massive 3.5Bn people still to get online!.

In addition to this information, the beauty industry and online retail is growing year on year!. Thus the amount of money to be made across all industries is on the rise.

Thus beauty blogging, or blogging of any niche, industry or market is ever saturated. Even in the event that one is, you can still niche down (as taught earlier in this article) and find a less crowded niche within a given market.

Because you are ready to beautify the beauty blogging world with your stunning beauty tips. The Question is: Will Step forward, make an effort and make money from your blog?

  • Can You Make Money Beauty Blogging?

Absolutely!. As I have shown throughout this article beauty blogging and blogging in general is about creating specific targeted content for an exact and targeted audience.

Do that, promote your site well on search engines, social media, public forums and email marketing. Then, with that traffic, you can monetize it by means of affiliate marketing, display adverts, membership subscription and /or your own physical or digital products and you will make money.

In fact I can reveal that the top 6 beauty bloggers all earned in excess of $20,000 USD...per month!.

That is almost a quarter of a million bucks a year..go figure!.

In fact..just listen to what this lady (below) has to say about some sponsorship deals that are going around the beauty industry...

...and be left gasp yourself!

  • Do You Have Some Beauty Blogging Tips For Beginners?

Absolutely, in addition to this extensive article which I do believe is littered with awesome blogging tips.

Work hard, find your niche or your unique angle, believe in yourself and your project as this is long term! long looooong term! And life changing!.

Do be omni-present on social media, particularly facebook groups (great for audience interaction and growing your audience). Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and be visual on YouTube and create content for your beauty blog on a regular and frequent basis.

And focus on creating a powerful brand. Also use multiple methods of monetization as to to keep your site independent of any one source of income. Also have multiple sources of traffic and don't become heavily reliant upon any one particular source of traffic or income.

Once your site takes off, reinvest your earnings back into the site to get neccessary things done that will improve it. Example a premium or custom theme, or content professionally written for you to ease your workload.

Same can be said for social media software to automate the process or hiring of a social media manager or Virtual Assistant to perform necessary tasks as you focus on growing your site and become less "hands on".

  • Beauty Blog Vs Beauty Vlog?

As interesting an fabulous a being a YouTube famous Beauty Vlogger is the inherent problem is that you don't own YouTube!.

Policy changes or changes on the Terms And Conditions could end up with you not just losing your funky and awesome Channel but a very and highly profitable business also!.

This is the very reason I always advise that you run your YouTube channel in conjunction with your beauty blog. You own your blog. It is your's, it is your own domain and nobody but nobody can or will ever take that away from you - period!.

(unless you sell it of course!).

Running a YouTube beauty vlog is, in my opinion an absolutely essential part of managing your beauty site. The reason being that it is excellent for not just traffic but high quality traffic!. Not no mention the humanisation of your brand.

In my opinion and experience it is best you use your channel, about 1/3rd of your videos to divert traffic to your blog.

When you over go and have too many videos taking traffic away from the video sharing platform they get all antsy! and can take down your channel!.

Sticking with a 1/3rd ratio is a very safe bet as later you can have a look at your top 5-10 trafficked videos and divert that traffic to a relevant page on your site.

Don't add affiliate links in the description area below your videos, this is against the T&C of many merchants (including amazon) and is against YouTubes also. Even though you have seen them there in other users videos it does not mean that it is ok.

Don't take that risk as you most certainly don't want to start from scratch again and besides, what you lose out in traffic to your site and the branding aspect is worth a lot more than the few bucks in affiliate commissions gained - besides you might still get the sale by means of your website.

  • Beauty Blog Vs Instagram

It's the same story as above, you don't want to be running your business on rented land be it Instagram, YouTube, Facebook or out or off of any platform that you don't personally own!.

I remember back in the day when Facebook, facebook pages and facebook groups were all the rage and "all you had to do" was keep posting and interacting with users in your own and other FB groups and pages...well' wha da ya know!

Facebook cut their reach...and put an end to all that (well, ok, almost!). But you get the drift! FB cut the reach meaning less and less people could see such postings organically and the only way to ensure that all members or fans could see what is posted is to pay for facebook adverts!.

Don't risk anyone putting a strangle hold on your business!.

How To Start A Beauty Blog And Make Money

Don't run your business on social media, instead use it for traffic and to grow your audience.

Similar happened to other social sites such as Pinterest and their on/off and currently back on love affair with affiliate links.

(my own advice on that one, take Pinterest users to your site - get the traffic and brand awareness and possibility of an email address to market to later!).

Run your business from something that you own and use all other channels be they social media, video sites, public forums as sources of traffic and comply with their rules and grow your audience there.

Ultimately, your goal is to own your traffic like a true authority blog.
