Preferred Transcriptions Review – Online Transcription Jobs From Home!

How Preferred Transcriptions function as a business is at their heart they are a Business Process Outsourcing company operating using the agency Business Model. 

Their works comes to them from their clients in the form of audio and video files which then get processed by their team, their list of independent contractors who process the work before returning the work to the company for proofreading and editing and finally to the client for acceptance. 

What Is The Work Like?

The work as a transcriber, be it online or regular work at the office can be a bit tedious and at times boring as you can be locked in an endless loop of pause/type/play typing what you hear of a topic or subject matter that may be boring, dry and uninteresting for you. 

The work that comes in to Preferred Transcriptions comes from different industries and can be widely varied, be sure to get a good mix of work that you do as this will help to alleviate that boredom that sets in. 

The work itself, although an acquired skill, is not so difficult to do. It is something that can be learned.

What Are The Application Requirements?

Preferred Transcriptions has different requirements for each of the positions available with their company. 

• Medical Transcription Positions:

To be considered as Medical Transcriptionist you must meet the following requirements: 

• You must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in a clinical or hospital environment or as a medical transcription service company. 

• You must have your own computer or laptop with a valid current antivirus software, your own licenced copy of Microsoft Word and Internet Access. 

• First class command and a stronghold of the English Language including grammar, spelling and punctuation. 

• You must be able to accurately proofread your own work. 

• Able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, meet deadlines and willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement. 

• Legal Transcriptionist

To become a legal transcriptionist with this company, you must meet the following requisites. 

• You must have a minimum of 1 years' experience in the transcription of legal or verbatim style dictation. 

• Must have a first class command of the English Language including punctuation, spelling and grammar. 

• You must be able to proofread your work accurately. 

• Be available to work 20 hours per week and meet the deadline and obligations.

• Must sign a confidentiality agreement. 

• You have your own desktop or laptop computer with antivirus software, fast internet connection and a valid licenced copy of MS Word. 

• General Transcriptionists

To be considered for one of their positions of General Transcription you meet their requirements as follows: 

• Have at least one year experience transcribing focus groups, interviews, calls or verbatim reports. 

• Own a reasonably modern laptop or desktop with MS Word, fast internet connection and antivirus software. 

• Have first class English language skills including Spelling, grammar and punctuation.

• Must be able to proofread your own work. 

• Must be willing to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and meet set deadlines. 

• You must be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement. 

For all positions a typing speed of 50 words per minute or faster is required. It is stated that you should strive for 75 to 100 words per minute.  

If you are unable to meet the requirements for whatever the reason, you can consider Online Bookkeeping, Becoming a Virtual Assistant, Teaching English Online or Proofreading.  

There is no mention a fixed schedule or set working hours at all. It is mentioned that you must be available for 20 hours of work per week, I can assume that it is up to you which 20 hours you can dedicate to completing the work as long as you can meet their deadlines. 

It is not mentioned on their site how you will be compensated or by which method they use to calculate payments - per word transcribed, per page or per audio minute. 

Their clients are billed per audio minute, I suspect the same method will be used to calculate your rate of pay and will vary on a per project basis basis on the difficulty rating of each project and the length of each audio file. 

Preferred transcriptions do not mention this key aspect either. I expect that you will be paid directly to your bank account by direct deposit. 

It is not explicitly stated that that their hire only from within the United States on their jobs page.

It is though stated else where that all their work is undertaken in the United States meaning their jobs are only available to US residents. 

There are a few things that I like about Preferred Transcriptions which are: 

• The have good amount of work available 20 hours per week. 
• Their requirements are indicative of a very serious company. 
• They are long established. 
• Genuine work from home job.

There are a few things that I did not like about Preferred Transcriptions. 

• There is no mention of them on the Better Business Bureau website
• Not an international opportunity. 
• No mention or indication of salary or average earnings or method of payment. 

Yes, 

You can make, or more accurately, earn with Preferred Transcriptions. I am unable to determine how much you can or could earn on average for a 20 hour working week. 

This something you will need to ask the company. 

In my opinion Preferred Transcriptions are not a scam. 

I have not been able to uncover any criminal, illegal, fraudulent or deceptive practices by this company that would make me think they are a scam.  

It is absolutely fair to say that Preferred Transcriptions are a legitimate company and organisation. 

Preferred Transcriptions have a series of work from home jobs that due to the amount of work that is available, a suggested 20 hours per week makes them worth applying for. 

Be sure to understand their rate of pay and calculate how much you can expect to earn. 

With this company, you can be halfway there to a working full time from the comfort of your home.
