Take 1 Transcription, Founded in 1995 by Dom Bourne and headquartered in Cranbrook, England is a Transcription Service business. They also provide translations.

Their main focus is providing post production transcripts for the entertainment industry with a specialisation in time coded transcripts. 

They have thousands of program credits to their name and focus on accuracy, a fast turnaround time and a fair price. 

Take 1 Transcription (Take1.TV) work with:

• ITV
• Discovery
• OfCom
• PriceWaterhouse Coopers
• MTV.
• Fox.
• Channel 4.
• E4.
• National Geographic
• And many more. 

Their services offered, and the kind of work you could be expected to take on includes: 

• Rough & fine cut.
• Tech Solutions.
• Online Captioning.
• Closed Captions.
• Metadata Lists. 
• Auto Description.
• Logging. 
• Searchable Scripts. 
• Subtitling.
• Translation. 
• Transcription. 
• Post Production.

The application process is very easy and straight forward. Head on over to their Employment Page Here and click the button at the bottom of the page to be taken to their online application form, which is currently in a google doc format.

You must complete their application form a be prepared to take a spelling test and have your CV (resume) ready to submit also. 

There is no indication of being required to take a test transcription to demonstrate your abilities. 

I expect at some point that you will as there are very few transcription companies that do not require you to take a test. 

They will only be in contact with successful applicants. If you don't hear from them, safely assume that your application has been unsuccessful.

It not stated on their site that you will be tied to a set working schedule. More often than not independent contractors and freelancers are responsible for setting their own working schedule. 

For each job or project that you are handed you will be obliged to meet the set deadline. 

In case that they (and you) take on live captioning, (not mentioned as a service offered), you will be tied to a set schedule to meet the demands of their client. 

It is not indicated anywhere what their rate of pay is or how much you could stand to earn. 

This is always understandable as in this "game" and line of work earnings vary a lot depending on your own abilities and talents. This where a sharp ear and fast typing skills come in. 

It would be nice if transcription companies and work at home opportunities were obliged by regulation to indicate average and mean income from the position available. 

The is only indication I was able to find was in this Take1 Transcription Review

that claim the pay is around US$3.18 per 1,000 words transcribed and UD$0.75 to US$1.00 per audio minute. 

The review is dated 2016 and thus I cannot confirm the accuracy at this present moment.

Your status with Take1.tv is that of an independent contractor. It is your obligation and requirement to send them an invoice monthly for the work done. 

Within a few days of submission you will be paid by Direct Deposit to your bank account. 

There is no indication of being limited to any specific geographic location and thus I do believe that this is an international opportunity. 

Which raises questions over their spelling test - British or American English?

If a work at home program appeals to you, then do the wise thing and do some background checks in to them.  

One of the first places I check out is The Better Business Bureau. Take one Transcription are not listed at all on the Better Business Bureau database at all 

I was not expecting them to be either as they are a UK based company. The UK equivalent is the Trading Standards Office and the Citizens Advice Bureau. 

There is no listing or mention of Take1.Tv or Take 1 Transcription with either organisation. The system in the UK does not provide a rating system and only lists warnings to the general public concerning certain companies and products when and where appropriate. 

There are a few things that I like about Take1 Transcription which were: 

• They are a long established company. 
• It appears that they have a steady flow of work, some 20 hours per week. 
• Looks like a very interesting job to do.

There are a few things that I did not like about Take 1 Transcription which were:

• Poorly Rated on Glassdoor. 
• It is claimed that pay is poor.
• No indication of the rate of pay on their site. 

Yes, 

I do believe that you can make money with Take1Tv, but do be aware that there are reports of their pay being on the low side. A cause of concern for many. 

Given their rate of pay that I was able to find you could be looking at US$200 To US$300 per week assuming there is 20 hours of work available. 

My calculation is based on 5 hours of audio being available per week. 

I do not think that Take 1 Transcription are a scam. 

It is reported that their pay is low, but poor pay does not make a company a scam (unfortunately!). 

I have not found any criminal activity, or anything connecting this company to acts of fraud that would permit me to claim that they are a scam. 

Due to the reports of low pay I advise to approach with caution and trying them out in a try before you buy kind of thing - like a side gig until you know exact details in regards to how much you are earning and how much effort you are putting in. 

If it is not worth it...ditch it!. 

This I feel is the best approach to this company - 20 hours of work per week as indicated is not something to be ignored easily! That is a good part time job...if they pay well!.
