This simply means that in this article you won't get any BS or gloss over of the bad points. Most importantly no sales talk and trying to push you to try it. What you will get is my own thoughts and opinion in regards to it. 

Before I get started I fully congratulate you for being pretty smart and on the ball in terms of being internet savvy. By doing your research you stay safe online, avoid scams and find the very best way of making money online.

Now, lets get cracking and find out all you need know about Amazon Mechanical Turk and if it is a scam or legit!. 

Amazon Mechanical Turk, known as MTurk for short is a website that uses crowdsourced workers to perform micro-on-demand-jobs that computers are not able to do. 

Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is part of  Amazon Web Services by Amazon. 

Businesses post the jobs that they need done, which amazon being amazon call them Human Intelligence Tasks or (HIT's for short). 

An example of jobs currently available include: 

• Writing Product Descriptions
• Answering Questions
• Identifying Exact Content In A Video Or Image
• Completing Surveys
• Blog Commenting
• Transcribing
• Many More...

Those performing the tasks are known on the site as "crowd workers" or the rather brilliant "Turkers".  

As a "Turker" you are free to check out what jobs are available, complete the given task for the job and get paid for your efforts.

There are countless businesses online that have some small jobs that need to be completed.

Those jobs can be short and sweet such as blog commenting, proof reading, editing, writing product descriptions, data entry, translations and performing web research and so on. 

These online businesses are in need for short term workers that are willing and able to perform those tasks from the luxury and comfort of their home.

Amazon Mechanical Turk has a team, or better put a swam of home workers that can perform those tasks on their data base.

Rather than do all the hiring, interviewing and so on for many small tasks websites owner simply put those small remote jobs on Amazon Mechanical Turk. 

You, as a "Turker" - essentially a freelancer on site the select the job and once you get it done and you get paid for you efforts. 

 The service functions in the best description as micro jobs agency, a middle man between the job seeker and the website owner. 

Every "turker" or freelancer on Amazon MTurk has full access to the dashboard from which they will see a full list of the available Human Intelligence Tasks (HIT's) - amazons awkward but fancy name for jobs!. 

How you earn for each "HIT" is clearly stated. There are literally thousands of jobs - sorry HIT's! available at any given time thus really, there should be no shortage of work. 

Some of the HIT's require approval, which you can just request. 

You MUST follow the specific set of of instructions that accompany the HIT to be able to qualify to be paid. Thus follow those instructions to the letter. 

Once complete you submit the HIT for approval, when the client approves it you will be paid. If your work is not approved you will not be paid. 

To sign up for Amazon Mechanical Turk all that is required is an Amazon account. If you are one of few on this pretty planet that doesn't have an Amazon account then don't worry - all you need is your name and your email address. Then create a password and verify your email address.

Then just fill out some basic details and inside a few days you will be emailed when your registration with Amazon MTurk is Accepted and you are good to go and start your new career as a micro worker with Amazon!. 

Most people are reporting earning that average out at $6 - $10 per hour. I did notice that those focusing on the lower and easier tasks such as surveys and blog commenting were reporting an significantly lower average hourly earnings. 

Thus put an effort into the more demanding jobs that are available.

That being said there are actually a number techniques that can be applied to increase your earnings. 

Increasing Your MTurk Earnings

Here are a few techniques that you can consider applying if you are genuinely interested at enhancing your earning potential on Amazon Mechanical Turk. 

Join A Forum

Surprisingly there are a few really brilliant and helpful forums online in where "Turkers" list the good HITS that become available for that day. "Turker Nation" and MTurk Crowd are two such forums. 

Also there is a great Sub reddit here. 

Be Available

The very best HITs become available during regular Business hours of 9-5 Monday to Friday USA Time, so be online during this time period!. 

Bunk Up Your Numbers

There is no way around this other than taking as many jobs as you can and getting a lot of jobs under your belt. 

Some of the better paying jobs are only available for those that are experienced workers and have 1,000, 5,000 or even 10,000 HIT's completed. 

Get A Browser Extension

There are some pretty cool browser extensions and scripts that can help you to add greater functionality when your are on the Amazon MTurk website. 

Turkoption: This is a pretty smart user based extension that helps you to weed out those scum bag requester's (businesses, employers) that have the habit of rejecting your work and thus not getting paid.

HIT Scraper: This is your HIT job finder that automagically refreshes your web browser and finds the Top HITS that you can do. 

Improve Your Skills!

The more skills you have the more likely you are to land one of the better paying jobs. 

One of the great things here is that Amazon Mechanical Turk pay you straight away - no waiting nothing. Straight away.

Only one caveat, 

Your first payment you have to wait 10 days for it - apparently for security reasons. I more think it is verifying you are legit real person performing the tasks and who is actually getting the money. 

I do believe this is actually a legal issue and obligation on behalf of the company know as "KyC" or "Know Your Client" laws and regulations and to prevent the funding of terrorism. 

But,

After that first time, every subsequent payment can be requested and made in 24hrs.

Only residents state side can be paid into their bank accounts. 

For everyone else - its amazon gift cards all the way. If you want to exchange you Gift card for cash you can try CardCash. 

Of the common complaints that I did come across online was the "working for pennies" as many of the jobs available are low paying for the task. 

Yes if you are based in America and have an american bank account. In this case Amazon Mechanical Turk Will pay you cash into your bank account. 

If you are not a resident in the United Stated then amazon will pay you in gift cards. 

Yes, completely legit. Amazon MTurk has literally speaking millions of workers on their database. 100% legit.

Everybody loves a comfortable easy job that pays!. 

There Are Always A Lot Of Jobs Available!

To never be short of work is a great thing is you want to work from the comfort of your  home and make a real good go of it!.

You Get Paid Straight Away!

With the exception of your first payment you can be paid daily. 

Nothing is perfect, ever. There were a few things that I didn't like about this opportunity, namely:

Some Scoundrels Abuse The System and Reject Your Work!

A company or subsidiary of amazon really ought to have something is place for these kinds of folks like banning their accounts or IP Addresses from using the system.

Lack Of Payment Options

Come on! World's biggest Company, a trillion dollar business - get with it get Paypal (at least) activated!. Having cash only option paid to only US residents is a proper pain in the backside - considering they accept worker from 49 countries (and pay only 1 in cash!). 

Pay Can Be Low

The majority of the jobs available to you are low paying ones - unfortunately!. 

Yes, you can make a regular income with Amazon Mechanical Turk but it depends on your skill level, willingness to pick up new skills and put in an effort. 

Many people have reported averaging $6 to $10/hr.

I think that without a single doubt that Amazon mechanical turk is completely legit and not a scam. 

Sure there are a lot of improvements that can be made such as rates of pay and method of pay, particularly international users but this does not mean that are scammy.

Paying in gift cards is just horrid for a company of this stature.

If you have the skill and desire to work hard then by all means give Amazon Mechanical Turk a shot and see how it goes for you.

If $6/$10 hr is low for you the give a good thought building up a passive income source that grows over a period of time.
