OutSec, Founded in 2000 by Vanessa French is a United Kingdom Based online secretarial services company that are headquartered in the Downham Market area of Fincham, Norfolk. Their main focus is on Transcription Services. 

The hire work from home people that can perform a variety of secretarial tasks over a number of different industries during UK 9am to 5pm office hours. 

If you are based outside the UK this could mean some very awkward working hours depending on your location EST this is 3 AM to 1PM.

They have their own App for Google Android Devices and iOS Devices to make the process for their clients to upload their files to their system easier.

OutSec.co.uk are a Business Process Outsourcing company operating using the agency business model. 

The work they get comes into them from their clients, which then gets outsourced to their network of highly qualified and experienced transcribers. 

This work once processed then gets checked by their quality control staff of editors and proofreaders before being forwarded to their clients for acceptance. 

What Is The Work Like?

The work that you will be doing with OutSec as a transcriptionist does not vary so much as they seek specialists in each area that they hire in, if you are multi-skilled and can demonstrated experience in different areas then you could enjoy a variety of different project to work on.

What Are The Application Requirements?

Something to be very clear about is that this company are based in the United Kingdom and are focused on hiring those that can work UK office working hours ONLY. 

If you are unable to meet those requirements, don't apply. Preference is given to those that are available 4 hours per day Monday To Friday.

There are a few other requirements stated on their website, which are:

• A preference is given if you have at least 2 years' experience in a typing job. 10 Year's experience is required if you are applying for the Legal transcription job. 

• A speciality in one of the following areas is preferred: Financial, Medical, Legal or Property (Real Estate) Surveying. 

• Must be able to type at a speed of 70 Words Per Minute Or Faster. 

• Have a strong grasp of the English Language including Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling.

• Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement, Business Practices Statement and a Code Of Professional Conduct Statement.

• It is considered an Advantage if you have experience working in an office setting in the UK. 

• Must have a modern Desktop or Laptop with Windows XP, Windows 7 Or Windows 8 and a reliable fast internet connection. 

• MS Word 2002 or more recent version. 

• Must be willing to install Java Applet for interfacing with their system.

• Be able to operate Apple Mac Systems. 

• You will need a Transcriber Headset and Foot Pedal.

Not mentioned but very useful for all transcription jobs and getting the job done more efficiently is a professional transcription software and a Grammar Checker. 

If you are unable to meet their requirements, you can consider becoming a Virtual Assistant, Online Bookkeeping, Teaching English Online Or Proofreading.

If any of the vacancies at OutSec interest you click the Apply Now button and fill out their online application form. 

If your application is successful, you will be contacted within 14 days. Unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted. 

There is no mention of having to take a transcription test prior to your application being successful, I fully expect that you will have some test to take as this is a very common part of the recruitment process with companies of this nature.

I strongly advise you to check all work at home programs that you are interested and perform some background checks. 

OutSec are not listed at all on the Better Business Bureau database, which is expected due to not being a North American Company. 

I checked out the UK Equivalent which is the Trading Standards Office and the Citizens Advice Bureau. There is no listing or mention on either site of OutSec.

This too was expected and is a good sign. The system in the UK is very different from the US where no rating system is available, only alerts are made to the public when there is a valid cause of concern. 

In this section I like to state and indicate what it is like to work with a company from current or ex-employees point of view to give you an idea of what to expect and to list any concerning or common complaints that have been put out. 

Unfortunately, there is no listing on popular job review sites like Glassdoor, Indeed or Flexjobs.

There is no mention of what it is like to work with this company on popular work at home forums either. 

There are a lot of Alternatives to OutSec, here are just some options available that you can also try.

Clearly and evidently you have options in this industry. While there is plentiful jobs available, if you are unqualified you are competing against the whole world for those jobs. 

And the jobs are not exactly that, they are individual projects and tasks that become available, for every job/project you are battling against everyone to get it. 

Worse still, the pay is not all that great for most companies.

However, 

With the more professional and serious agencies the jobs are easier to come by, pay much better (often double and more!) and have a regular workflow of 16-20 hours per week (with the one company!). 

The only snag is they require their candidates to be qualified. It makes perfect sense to put in an effort and get qualified and help yourself get much closer to your goal of achieving that dream of working from home full time!.
