Is Optavia A Scam? Lose Weight And Lose Money?

Before I jump in and talk about Optavia I'd like to congratulate you on being pretty smart and doing your homework before diving in on a business opportunity. 

This how you avoid and avert being scammed and find bonafide legit ways of earning money.

Let's now crack on and talk about optavia. 

Optavia is a Multi-Level Network Marketing company that is focused around the sale of weight loss products, programs and meal replacement. They were founded in 2016 by Bradley T. Macdonald And Dr. Wayne S. Andersen. 

Previously the business operated under a completely different name and entity all together, namely "Take Shape For Life" what was formed in 2002, some 14 years prior to the existence of Optavia. 

Currently when you perform an internet search for  "Take Shape For Life", Optavia and Medifast are the top results returned. 

Medifast is the parent company of Optavia and subsequently take shape for life brand. 

Just because rebranding took place this does not automatically mean a scam is going on.

Certainly a red flag would be raised if it was a small business rebranding I'd be pretty suspicious. 

But not a large organisation such as Medifast who are a publicly traded company on the NYSE - the New York Stock Exchange and have almost 400 employees and generate over $300M USD annually. 

Although the reason for rebranding is not clear, I suspect that the reason being the growth of the internet from the inception of Take Shape For Life in 2002 and the 2016 rebranding to Optavia - a more internationally appealing name for markets outwith the English Language. 

After all branding and brand recognition is a very important aspect of a business. 

In a nutshell, the Optavia Product line is focused around meal replacement products and coaching. 

Similar entities like Amway and Herbalife offer a similar range of meal replacement products. 

Basically a meal replacement is as it sounds, a replacement for regular meals and come most commonly come in a liquid drinkable format.

They are formulated and designed in a manner to aid weight loss and still allow your body to get the nutrients that it needs for proper healthy function. 

Examples of Meal Replacements offered by Optavia are:

• Brownie
• Bars
• Pancakes
• Shakes
• Mac & Cheese

Optavia, has the plus point of a support network and coaching to help you to lose weight which is a good thing in my opinion and a bad thing. 

Weight loss can be pretty difficult to "get it off and keep it off".

If you have ever tried to lose weight (like myself!) you know what I am talking about when I say a support community or mentor helps a lot. 

The downside is these "health coaches" are really unqualified (mostly) in the field of dieting, nutrition and health.

They are in all essence independent Optavia distributors who may or may not give the best advice and be seeking to maximise their income and get more sales. 

It is in the Optavia Community where you will be able to locate and possibly select (depending on availability) your health coach. 

If there are a number available in your locality this is where you can get smart and do some screening and opt for the best qualified one of them all. 

(You never know some coaches might be properly qualified, and running a Optavia business as a sideline to pay off student loans as their careers take off!). 

You coach will contact you in a number of ways including text, phoning you and helping you to stay focused in regards to your weight loss and health goals. 

I do like this accountability thing and helping you to stay on track. It is so easy to stray off and on to the wayside!.

Habits Of Health

This is what the company calls their unique range of meal replacement products of which there are some 60 to chose from. 

It is claimed by Optavia that their Fuelings are scientifically developed and geared towards the achievement of obtaining a healthy weight. 

They might be healthy, but they will be heavy on your wallet, weighing in at $350 per month on average.

Health Coach Income

When you become an Optavia Health Coach you can earn when you sell Optavia Products. This is a pretty good thing because in network marketing for the sustainability of the business and "ecosystem" products have to be sold. 

Otherwise, when only recruiting happens, no products get sold and the "pyramid" collapses in on itself.

This is actually what makes Optavia a bonafide and genuine business opportunity and NOT a pyramid scheme. 

Business Coach Income

When you are able to grow and augment your downlines with the required allotment of fee paying members then you can move up a rank and earn money by coaching and mentoring the health coaches below you and helping them to make sales.  

Bonus payments and commissions are paid when certain targets such as sales and achieving a certain rank or growing your team occur.

Remember when products don't get sold the whole system falls apart. 

Business Leader Income

To get to the Optavia business leader income level it is required that you obtain the rank of regional director and that your downlines are required to obtain "Executive Director Level"

Getting this far, requires a lot of work and time. Also your health coaches should have gotten to then advanced ranks in Optavia. 

Can You Make Money With Optavia?

Yes, there is plenty of opportunity for you to make money with Optavia. Given the structure and focus on sales and the longevity of the company, both in its current and previous brand I can say there is sustainability with Optavia. 

Is Optavia A Scam?

No. Optavia is not a scam, it is genuine business and although a MLM (not my own personal liking) it is real business opportunity where you can profit from and earn money. 

Is Optavia Legit?

Absolutely. Not a doubt about it. Despite my dislike for network marketing and MLM opportunities Optavia is one of the better ones. with a real emphasis on sales. 

Is Optavia Worth it?

No. Having a low entry cost and confirming that Optavia is not a scam it is still not a business that I would recommend that you get involved in unless you are particularly good at sales or recruiting. 

Optavia as a business opportunity is something that you best avoid due to the price range of their products. Their products can be expensive - the meal replacements can cost $350 per month and more... 

This is what could make the products difficult for you to sell.
