What Is Wish?

Wish, a genius idea and online electronic commerce business that was born out of the"wish list" idea often found on Amazon.

When the app started users would create a wish list, add items to it much like we do with wish lists on amazon with the exception that once a certain amount of items were wished for the app owners would approach manufacturers, distributor and merchants and negotiate a price for their product list, get a discount for wholesale buying and pass on the savings to their end users.

Genius idea!.

Wish was founded in 2010 by Peter Szulczweski who is the current CEO and "social commerce hacker" Danny Zhang, the Chief Technical Officer.

Their business model is very similar to eBay, Alibaba and the popular South East Asian Shopping Channel Lazada where Small to medium businesses and enterprises on Wish sell their goods direct to the general public.

Wish outlet, a section added in 2017 for the sale of overstocked branded merchandise significantly lower than the suggested retail price.

Both Alibaba and Amazon offered to buy out the company for a fee said to be in excess of $10 Billion USD!, of which both founders refused saying their believe the site and app can grow to be worth 10x that figure as "social commerce" expands.

Wish is super famous for the incredibly - sometimes unbelievably low prices on products that are normally significantly, and I do mean SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive.

What you buy doesn't actually come from Wish itself - they are just the middle man. They are sold by various sellers, of which Wish charges them a fee for selling via them platform - not so different from eBay and Amazon really!.

Wish Pricing - Why Are Items So Cheap On Wish?

Pop on over to wish right now! What do you see?

Crazy ridiculously cheap....everything!.

Well...One of the "tricks" that permit sells to appear like you are getting a crazy great deal is the sellers are allowed to invent and put any "original price" that they feel like!.

Wish Review

Any original price is allowed to be written by the seller, thus some deals are not quite what they seem.

So before you think you are getting an awesome deal...it might just be "Wishful thinking". Do your homework - check similar items on eBay and Amazon as well as other shopping channels.

Why are some prices so low? Why so cheap?. It reality Wish is not so different from Alibaba or Aliexpress where the products are of questionable quality and manufactured from cheaper material and, in some cases, counterfeit goods.

A lot of this is down to where the items are sourced from. China.

If you have been questioning the quality of products from Alibaba, then you really ought to question wish too.

Having lived across Asia for a number of years now (nearly 10 years!) in a variety of different countries from Thailand to Malaysia To Vietnam To Indonesia and Myanmar (Burma). I can tell you, hand on my heart, one thing.

There are no labour laws!.

It is not that the laws are lenient...they don't exist. You don't work - you don't get paid. No holidays. No days off (some lucky ones do but its unpaid). No over time. No extra pay. No health care. No Unemployment benefit and no government pension.

Sound familiar?

Yep, legalised economic slavery!.

This is what allows China (and the rest of Asia) to mass produce goods and an incredibly low price. Plus, the product sold on Wish.com website are direct from the manufacturer and shipped by the Manufacturer.

That saves the manufacturer costs in storage and wish too.

Often the quality of products sold on wish are not quite as they would seem, There are plenty unboxing videos on YouTube to chose from. Here is just one.

Evidently this is not actually going to be a solid and reliable way of making money as spending money is not making money.

My Top Recommendation will help you to make real money online in a sustainable fashion thanks to their proven method, system and first class training.

My top Money saving and cashback app is Ebates - Get US$25 just for getting started.

I Wish List Safe?

Hmm, yes and no.

I'll explain.

You are not in any immediate danger by buying products from Wish. There don't sell any consumables so, I'd say your are safe in this aspect.

However,

Lets face it if you are buying a designer jacket for $30 and it ends up being fake, a counterfeit, which it in all probability is! common sense only tells us that!. The old fashioned saying about getting what you pay for!.

There may be laws in your country or state against the reception of counterfeit goods.

If you are planning on buying a whole bunch and selling them on...definitely laws against that!.

And...then there is my favourite current topic...Surveillance capitalism.

Will Wish Steal My Information?

Technically no!.

Because you are giving it to them, pretty much everything short of your exact GPS location! (of which they "will ask you for" if the want it - oh how kind of them!).

There is a reason as why their Privacy policy was hard to find and hidden deep on their site!. Written in plain old English that they will absolutely have your data for their own use, and for their partners and will track you and send targeted advertising campaigns on social media (Facebook) directed at you.

So if you have been on Wish and then later flicking through Facebook and see certain ads...its not an accident!.

But no, they will not "Steal" your information, they will just unethically use it because by using their site you gave them permission to do so!.

Can You Save Money With Wish List?

Yes and no.

Sure you can find a bargain, but not really going to be any cheaper than other retailers, and when you do see a wildly cheap item the probability is you are compromising on quality.

And then there is the human issue - Catch 22!.

As humans we all love a bargain, and why not. In the case of Wish its a catch 22 situation - do you support slave labour and exploitation and enjoy saving a few pennies...or...do you boycott and cost poor hardworking people their jobs?

As consumers - damned if we do damned if we dont!.

The real answer is social justice - comment below this article your thoughts on Wish share it on social media and hopefully some people will think twice..and gain the attention of wish who can then force their supplier to give better working conditions to their employees.

Cheap low cost items can sometimes come at a human cost!.

Shipping Times - You'll Be Left Waiting

The biggest complaint mad against Wish is that it can seem for ever for an item to be delivered. Some users have even said that their items took months to be delivered.

In this case, I am more suspicious of the item being manufactured upon the order rather than it already being available. Like I mentioned earlier, I live in Asia and I KNOW delivery does not take months, sure weeks it can genuinely take but months no!.

Long delivery times, direct from manufacturer, and cheap price might just be the trade off you make in order to get that great deal. Just don't go purchasing seasonal items or timely gifts.

It has been said though that express shipping usually only takes about 7 days to arrive. Thus, keep your bargain hunting down to express shipped items only.

Is Wish List A Scam?

No, I would nt particularly say that wish list is a scam. You get what you pay for. So, buyer beware.

When it comes to sites like these pay more attention to the reviews than the items photo - the photo in many cases can appear to be far better than the product actually is.

And if it is too good to be true - it usually is!.

Is Wish List Legit

Yes I would say so. Just be careful and compare what appears to be a great deal with other online shopping channels. It might not be so great a deal.

Wish List Pros And Cons

The Pros

What I Liked About Wish:

  • The ability to save a pretty penny is always a good thing, especially when money is tight!.
  • Cheap stuff that I don't care about the quality is easily available (like tshirts for sweating it down at the gym!)

The Cons

What I did n't like about Wish:

  • Product quality can be questionable
  • Long delivery times
  • Bargains might not be real bargains
  • Questionable privacy policy
  • Potential of indirectly by means of their manufacturers being guilty of slave labour/sweat shops.

My Wish List Review - The Conclusion

In for a penny and in for pound - you might end up finding a great deal or two. But buyer beware. Be ware of the data issue and the human one - catch 22 situation. Personally I am not so convinced of Wish at all.
