TestingTime Review – Worth Your Time Or A Waste Of Your Time?

TestingTime (TestingTime.com) founded in 2013 by Reto Lammler and Oliver Ganz and are headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. 

They are a legitimate online business that offer to pay their members for participating in guided usability testing either in person or by Skype offering you the possibility of testing out new products, complete online surveys and studies as well as diary studies. 

Product owners and developers need some live in person market research feed back on what their target audience think about their products and their usability to get an indication of any errors and areas that can be improved upon which is where you come in and for your time and effort you can earn some extra cash. 

TestingTime, owned and operated by TestingTime AG, works directly with Market Research companies that work with innovators, product owners and creators of both physical and digital products who need and want people within their target audience to test and report back on their experience with their product to help them to improve it. 

Testing Time gets paid by the market research firm for your participation.

It is the commonly used agency business model. It is, in my opinion an important step to take to understand how a business makes money in order to determine their legitimacy and if you should take things any further. 

I have, in my time come across a number of scams where their claimed business model simply did not make much sense. Thankfully this site is not one of them. 

I'll talk in a second about what you need to do to make money, hold tight!.

Who Is TestingTime For?

I have not seen anything on their website that indicates who they will accept as a member or if their registration is open for everyone or restricted to a set geographic location or age limitation.

Upon closer examination it does appear that this portal is intended for Europeans and residents in Europe. I deduct this based on their client base being predominantly from Switzerland, Germany and Austria. 

Despite all of those countries being German speaking countries there is no obligation for being a German Speaker. 

If you are from those countries or based in Europe and wish to try out this opportunity fill in their registration form and give them a go.

On the homepage look to the top right of your screen and click the black "Become A Tester" Button. 

You will be taken to this page where you will be asked to enter your name and email.

Your next step is to complete the registration form, confirm your email address by clicking the link in the confirmation email that you receive and then complete your profile questionnaire. 

There are only two ways of making money with TestingTime which are Usability testing and their affiliate program. 

1. Completing Usability Tests

This is obviously the main way in which you can make money with this site as they are after all a Usability Testing Platform. 

These tests can be conducted in Person or by Skype. Once you have signed up for their platform you will receive by email, each test that becomes available is on a first, come and first serve basis so be quick and check your inbox daily and keep an eye on their Facebook page as they are known to inform their fans and followers of opportunities that become available. 

When you get an offer, you will need to schedule a time to take it and turn up on time. You can use Google Calendar as a reminder. 

If you miss your appointment, I would not expect them to be too keen to send much work your way.  

Naturally you will need a Skype Account, a webcam and a good microphone, your built-in mic should be good enough for the job at hand. Also handy is a nice quiet room for you to complete the tests in. 

Each test can range for 30min to 90 mins to complete for longer more comprehensive ones. 

During the test you will be required to test the product agreed and give feedback while you are doing so.

You will be guided through the process by a moderator every step of the way, be prepared to answer their questions in an honest and truthful manner. 

The moderator is not looking for you to tell them how fantastic the product is but want to know you thoughts are as you are using their product, which is why you must voice your thoughts. 

It is possible that you can use your mobile device for completing your test but due to the lower quality of audio it is best that you don't use a mobile device and opt for your laptop or desk top instead. 

2. Their Affiliate Program.

This is the only other way you can top up your earning from the User Testing side of their platform, as with testing time they are not like a GPT site where you have typically 5-8 different tasks you can complete.

User testing sites only have 1 and if you are luck a second way via affiliate marketing and promoting their site to your family and friends. 

Their Affiliate program is only seen when you have joined their site and become a member. In the emails that you receive there will be a link that you can share and get others to join. 

When one of your referrals join and complete their first user test you will earn 

5€.

This not a signup or joining bonus as they must first compete a user test before you will be paid, and only a one off payment. 

It is mentioned on their site that you can earn €50 per hour for each user test that you successfully complete. This a significant and eye catching amount as most of the websites of this nature that I reviewed only pay around the US$10 mark. 

The €50 is not that you will likely earn that much every hour as it is fully dependent on you getting tests to complete and on a regular basis. Each test is as I mentioned on a first come first served basis.

It has been claimed by several users and a variety of other sources that you will be lucky to get 1 test per month to complete. 

It can be fair to say that €50 per month can be what you can expect to earn with this site meaning you are not likely to earn a full time income but also an easy 50 euro per month for an hours work is not to be ignored and is a welcome little bit extra, especially as it is not likely to take up too much of your time.

Every time you complete a test you will earn the agreed amount in Euros. One of the plus points about user testing sites is that unlike GPT sites and survey sites is that you have no minimum pay out threshold and you will be paid straight away, no waiting!. 

To get your earnings you are paid in only two ways which are either PayPal or direct to your bank. 

With PayPal you should note that it will take between 5 and 10 business days to get your earning into your bank account.

I checked a number of sources and was unfortunate not to find any bona fide legitimate proof of income relating to this site. 

I encourage you to be as safe as you possibly can online and that involves taking a few extra steps to check out an opportunities background. 

TestingTime.com are not based in North America and are no subject to the Better Business Bureau and thus are by definition and default not accredited and not rated by the organization. 

There are a lot of good positive points that I liked about Testing Time which were:

• You can earn money with them.
• They are free to join. 
• No minimum payout threshold. 
• Well paid per test completed.

There are something that I did not like about TestingTime which were:

• They appear to me limited to only a small number of countries.
• There is not a lot of work available.
• Tests are strictly on a first come, first served basis.

Yes,

It is very evident that you can make money with TestingTime, and you can earn very well with them on a per test basis. 

Keep it in mind that you might not get so much work coming your way and not on a regular basis. 

I could understand why some people think or are curious about TestingTime being a scam due to the lack of opportunities available and not getting any invites or accepted to take any tests. 

But,

Upon close examination I have seen nothing at all related to fraud or deception or anything illegal that would legitimately link them to being a scam. I am happy and content to say that in my opinion TestingTime are not a scam. 

TestingTime can be a bit testing of your patience as you await for Digital Products to test out due to a lack of opportunities being available and unfortunately unlike GPT Sites you really have no other task for you to earn money from. 

Sure, 

They have an affiliate program but that is attached to you being to recruit members and them getting the opportunity to complete a test before you can earn from it making is a rare earner even if you being people over to their platform. 

In my opinion, you are much better either stacking this opportunity with just about every other user testing platform and aiming to get as much work of this kind as you can or simply trying something else. 

Opportunities in the field are sadly rare, this goes for many of the other user testing platform too, sadly.
