If you are curious and wondering if Transcription Express Is A Scam, for one I don't blame you - you can never be too sure nor too safe when it comes down to online work from home opportunities!. 

There are many opportunities in the world of remote work from home transcription jobs - Net Transcripts, SpeakWrite, Allegis Transcription, Express Scribe, TranscribeMe, and QuickTate...literally the list is endless!.

There has to be a rogue shoddy company in there somewhere...Is It Transcription Express?

Is Transcription Express A Scam Or Legit?

Transcription Express works using the agency business model where their clients send them the work, the audio and video files that they need converted into a text format. 

They transcription express then look to their list of competent and quality freelance transcribers to undertake that task. 

Working with clients in this fashion and manner saves you as an independent contractor from spending your own time looking for work and clients of your own. 

Each file you select to take on, you have a turn around time of 24 hours to complete the task.

What Is The Work Like?

The work involved is not any different from what you would expect from any general transcription company. 

The majority of the work that comes their way is related to the insurance industry with a lot of claims work. If you have experience in this area, you will be at an advantage. 

The work is on a first come first served basis, which means you need to be fast and sharp, checking the jobs area regularly and frequently. 

The application process is very straightforward. Check their website for vacancy's here and enter your email and get their guide. 

During the selection process you will undergo a few tests including a typing speed and accuracy test, a transcription test, a homonym test and work at home suitability test.

If you pass all of those tests you will need to undergo a background check. 

As an independent contractor you can work the hours that suit you and the days that suit you. 

Effectively speaking, Transcription Express will be your client, you will not be an employee of the company.

They have 22,000 files per month that need transcribing, those that can work 4 to 6 hours per day Monday to Friday are given preference. 

It is not stated on their website what the rate of pay is, which is rather surprising for such a large organisation. 

According to what I have found on both Indeed and Glassdoor the pay is in the US$5 per hour range 1/3 of what their support staff are paid. 

There is no information as to how you will be paid and how often. This is something I find rather amateurish form a well known and well established company!. 

Due to hiring only US based transcriptionists I suspect you will be paid by direct deposit or by check. 

Unfortunately, there is no international love going on here. 

This job is strictly reserved for US residents only!. 

By habit I always check out how a perspective work from home employer is rated and viewed by the Better Business Bureau, and you should too!. 

I can report that Transcription Express are fully accredited and hold a perfect A+ rating with the BBB. 

Transcription Express are rated at a better than average and respectable 3.8 on Glassdoor with 86% saying they would recommend them to a friend. 

They are rated similarly at a 3.3 on Indeed, which is very average at best. 

There are some things that I do like about Transcription Express, which are:

• They are Fully Accredited and perfectly rated at the Better Business Bureau
• They have a lot of regular work, 4-6 hours daily 5 days a week. 
• Genuine work from home opportunity.

There are some things that I did not like about Transcription Express: 

• You are required to pay for your background check (US$70!).
• US$250 penalty if you leave before your 3 month contract expires. 
• It is claimed that the pay is terrible - US$5 per hour!.

Yes, 

Transcription express is not a business opportunity, they represent a regular "you work, you get paid" job as an independent work from home contractor. 

The more you work, the more you will be paid. 

It might be claimed that The salary is scandalous and low but if true that is not enough to call them a scam. 

Imposing fines on those that leave their contracts early is shambolic and deplorable, but sadly they are well within the law to do so. 

(I don't like it or agree with it either!). 

I will only call something a scam when it fits the legal definition of a scam. Transcription Express do not fit that bill at all. 

As regular as the work may appear to be with Transcription Express, I get the distinct impression they are not revealing all in regards to their rate of pay as it is rather low. 

Rather than dismiss this opportunity out of hand - they do appear to offer a lot of work, I'll say approach with caution and keep it in mind that there are much better companies to work with.
