So what about Fantastic Transcripts?

Where do they fit in, are they worth trying out? What is their requirements and Application process like? What is their pay like and can you really make money with them?

Fantastic Transcripts or "FanTran" as they like to call themselves is at their core functionality a Business Process Outsourcing Agency using the agency business model. 

Their work comes in to them form their various clients which then gets sent to their list of competent and qualified transcribers to process and then returned back to Fantastic Transcripts for quality checks before being sent to their client for approval. 

It is a very common model, one which is used by all transcription agencies. 

What Is The Work Like?

Despite being an acquired skill, there is nothing difficult to transcription work. The more practice you get, the better you will become. 

At the core of the work it is listen to what you hear and type it up using the required formatting and style. 

Be sure to vary your work, the kind of projects that you accept to avoid boredom setting in. 

This company tends to get a lot of translation and transcription work in the Spanish language - if you are fluent in Spanish that's a nice bonus for extra work. 

The application process is very straight forwards. Firstly and most importantly you are asked not to call in at their office. 

All applicants are asked to apply by email, attaching their resume with a cover letter stating their experience and relevant work experience to  jobs@fantastictranscripts.com and FantasticTranscripts@Gmail.com.  

There is no further mention of the application process and what entails. I expect you will undergo a short transcription test to prove your ability as a transcriptionist. 

No set working hours or requirements are mentioned on their website. I expect that as an independent contractor you will be free to work your own hours but tied to a deadline for each job that you are handed. 

Details regarding salary are not mentioned on their website I have found this Fantastic Transcripts Review that their office staff are paid in the US$10-US$12 pay scale when they first get started. 

Apparently there are blog posts claiming US$30 to US$35 per hour as a transcriptionist with Fantastic Transcripts. I will add that is rather elevated and may refer to as "per audio hour" and not per hour worked.

It is not stated how you will be paid. 

Since there is no mention of the jobs being limited to US citizens or residents only I can only assume you will be paid by direct deposit or check, if you are US based and Paypal if you are based outside the US. 

Any restrictions based upon location are not stated or mentioned at all on the website. 

I will happily assume that international applicants are welcome until stated otherwise. 

I strongly Encourage you to conduct background checks for any and all Remote Jobs that catch your attention.  

The Better Business Bureau is always the first place I check as you can gather a lot of information from a company profile there. 

Unfortunately, Fantastic Transcripts are not listed on the Better Business Bureau database at all which tell me that having been in operation since 1998 they can't be too busy if they have not yet registered on taken the steps to do so in the time since then!. 

Their status by default is Unaccredited and not rated. 

In this section I like to dig into a company and see what it is like to work for them from an employee's perspective. 

Unfortunately, there is no mention of them on flex Jobs, Glassdoor, or Indeed.com making it difficult to get the opinion of ex or current employee's. 

There are something that I did like about Fantastic Transcripts, which were: 

• They are a long established company. 
• Their openness and honesty is adorable.
• They apparently pay reasonable ok. 
• Very easy application process. 

There are some things that I did not like about  Fantastic Transcripts, which were: 

• No listing at all on the Better Business Bureau. 
• No mention on known job sites about them. 
• Lacking details about the salary on offer. 
• Work can be irregular.

Yes, 

as this is a work from home opportunity where you can get paid for the work that you do but it is not stated how much you will be compensated for your effort. 

In my opinion Fantastic Transcripts are not a Scam. 

I have not been able to uncover any activity that is a cause for concern regarding this company at all. 

I would not hedge your bets on Fantastic Transcripts as it is, in my opinion fairly evident there are very few jobs going here and not a lot of work available. 

At best you will pick up some work here and there.
