Cambridge Transcriptions as a business function using the agency business model where their clients contact them with the work that needs to be transcribed. 

They, Cambridge Transcriptions, then contact their network of transcriptionists who then complete the work and forward the completed documents to them. 

Cambridge Transcriptions then forward the completed documents to their client for approval. 

When accepted, you get paid for your work. It is a very common and legal business model. 

What Is The Work Like?

The work with this company is not significantly different from any other transcription agency and what they would expect of you. 

A lot of their work is of a technical manner and related to legal transcription work. Experience with the legal process, framework, language used and technical terms is an advantage. 

Perhaps this is why they have the obligation of having a minimum of one years experience as a court reporter or as a legal transcriptionist. 

What Are The Application Requirements?

Cambridge Transcriptions have 2 distinct transcription positions available which are A+ Legal transcriptionist and corporate Transcriptionists. 

• A+ Legal Transcriptionist:

The requirements for an A+ legal Transcriptions are as follows: 

• Must have proven experience in transcribing depositions, arbitrations and administrations. 
• Must have a strong hold of the English Language including punctuation, grammar and spelling. 
• Must detail orientated and able to follow set specific instructions. 
• Must have knowledge of commonly used software applications and equipment used.

If you meet those requirements, send your resume and a cover letter detailing the type of legal proceeding you have experience with and attach 2 or 3 redacted transcripts as an example of your ability and work completed in a Microsoft word format to employtran@ctran.com 

• Corporate Transcriptionist: 

The requirements for their corporate transcribers are as follows: 

• Must be a good typist (no speed stated).
• Must have a strong grasp of the English Language including grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
• Must be detail focused and able to follow set specific instructions.
• Must be familiar with electronic transcription equipment and software. 
• Must be familiar with word processing packages. 
• Experience transcribing medical, technical or legal documents is an advantage.

If you meet those requirements send your resume and a cover letter with at least 2 redacted transcript samples of your own to employtran@ctran.com in a MS Word format.  

There is no mention of any required equipment or typing speed or accuracy rate mentioned. Once you forward your resume and cover letter, you will be advised of the next steps to take.

Details are scarce when it comes to finding details about how, when and how much you are paid by Cambridge Transcriptions. 

I have found on Glassdoor for digital court reporters for Boston Depositions pay a minimum of US$200 per deposition, depending on which day, and time of day the deposition is.

As far as "ordinary" run-of-the-mill jobs as a transcriptionist online go the boot really is on the other foot!. 

You have the choice of which companies that you work with and when!. There are so many to choose from!. 

The better jobs, the more stable and lucrative ones are hard to come by as the entry level is a lot tougher and like Cambridge Transcriptions they require experience and professional certification. 

My own suggestion to you is to do yourself some justice and get certified. Sure it going to cost you!. But, in reality it is an investment in yourself and your future.
