American High Tech Transcription, Founded in 1994* and headquartered in Largo, Florida are a Transcription Service, translation and court reporting agency. 

They provide secure, accurate and detailed services for government agencies and private companies worldwide. The work undertaken comes from both national and international companies, despite this ALL their transcription and translation work is undertaken in the US. 

*Prior to 1994 American High Tech Transcription was operating under the name of Segal Reporting Service. 

This company specialise in Court Reporting And Law Enforcement Transcriptions and Translation. The Type of work  includes:

• Patrol And Detective Reports
• Medical Examiner Reports

They also take on corporate Transcription Work and Transcribe the following:

Their services are available 24/7 365. 

American High Tech Transcription work using the universally accepted and legitimate agency business model where their clients, who are predominantly speaking government agencies, particularly law enforcement give them work that need to be processed. 

This work then gets sent to their list of qualified and highly competent transcribers (or translators) to be processed. 

Once the work has been accepted their independent contractors get credited with the work they have undertaken. 

What Is The Work Like?

The work with this company can certainly be very interesting to say the least and of a highly technical nature and requires skilled verbatim translation due to the nature of the work. 

The work can be interesting and varied as each case and file to transcribed will be uniquely different, helping to alleviate the groundhog day effect. 

The translation work is something that is not as simple as speaking and translating, as a translator you need to remain impartial and translate the meaning of the words for court and law enforcement translations. 

There is nothing to the job that I would consider and incredibly difficult. 

What Are The Application Requirements?

To be considered for employment as an Independent Contractor for their work from home positions, you must be a US Citizen or a Legal US Resident living and working in the United States. 

• Transcriptionists

To be considered as a transcriptionist, you need to meet the following requirements: 

• You must have a reasonably modern computer with at least 20GB HDD Free Space, Windows 10 and MS Word 2010 Or higher and an internet speed of 45 MB/sec download Speed.

• English Must Be Your Mother Tongue. 
• Must Have GOES - Global Online Entry System Card.

• Must Have and share a Standard Report From GoodHire.com

• Able to process material that is of violent, offensive and often disturbing nature.

• Translator

To be considered for their foreign language translation openings you must be a court-certified translator, with a requisite for federal state security clearance with the Department of Homeland Security being needed. 

• You must be a US Citizen Or a Legal Resident

• English Must be Your Mother Tongue. 

• Pass A State Police And FBI Criminal Background check. 

• Share a standard report From GoodHire.com. 

• Be able to prove you have federal security clearance (if needed). 

• Be in Possession of a Global Online Entry System Card. 

• You be a tested or Certified state or federal court translator or hold a national recognised certification of your ability to accurately translate.

 There is no mention of an obliged minimum typing speed, although 65 words per minute is mentioned for their in house hires.

There is no mention of other equipment such as a headset, foot pedal, transcription software or grammar checker. 

If you are unable to meet their requirements for whatever reason, you can consider Teaching English Online, Being an Online Bookkeeper, A Virtual Assistant or Proofreading. 

There is no mention of any set working hours on their website. As an independent contractor I expect that you will be able to set your own working hours.

Being an independent contractor you are not employed by the company directly, they are your client, not the other way around. 

One solid obligation you have is to complete any given task or project before the deadline or due date. 

It not stated anywhere on their site how you will be or by which method they will calculate your payment, be it per page transcribed, per word transcribed or per audio minute. 

I checked known job and employer review sites like Glassdoor and Indeed.com. There is no indication of rates of pay on those sites for this company. 

There is no indication either of the method in which you will be paid. 

Employing US residents only I assume that you will be paid by direct deposit or by check.

Unfortunately not. 

American High Tech Transcription only employ US Citizens or individuals with legal permission to reside and work in the United States. 

There is no listing or profile for American High Tech Transcription on Glassdoor or Indeed.com 

It has not been possible to find complaints about this company anywhere online. 

There are some things that I liked about American High Tech Transcription, which were: 

• They Are Perfectly rated At A+ By the Better Business Bureau. 
• They are a long established business - dating back to 1984.
• The job they have available is genuine and authentic. 
• They are a very serious and professional organisation.

There are some thing that I did not like about American High Tech Transcription, which were: 

• Not Fully Accredited By The Better Business Bureau. I expect a business, established in 1984 to be fully accredited, particularly one that requires their employees/independent contractors to have Federal Security Clearance. 
• Work Can Be Very Irregular. 
• A General Lack Of Details on their site regarding employment application process and rates of pay.
• They Ask you to pay for the cost of your own report from goodhire.com as an employer they should cover this cost only for applicants they are serious about hiring. 

Yes, 

Absolutely, and although the rate of pay is not indicated or by which form they base their calculation on, you can make, or more accurately, earn money with American High Tech Transcription. 

Just how much is unknown. 

I have not seen any indication to suggest any wrong doing, criminal activity, fraud or deception by this company that would cause me or anyone else to claim that that are a scam.

American High Tech Transcription have been in business for nearly 40 years, if they were a scam, they would have been uncovered by now!. 

American High Tech Transcription are a long established, serious and trusted company who hire frequently but not often. 

Their remote jobs I got the impression do not come with that much work and are used more as a means of relieving the work load at their office when it gets particularly busy. 

However, there is no harm in trying as they say!.
